Favorite "Queen" Songs #2 - "God Save the Queen"

We have reached "Oh really, there's a shock" territory in my countdown of my favorite songs with "queen" in the title. We are at #2, and it's really no surprise: "God Save the Queen" by the Sex Pistols. The second single released by the legendary British punk band, "God Save the Queen" was (unintentionally, according to the band) put out during Queen Elizabeth II's 1977 Silver Jubilee. Ostensibly a protest song about England's treatment of the British working class, the song proved controversial enough to be banned by the BBC (a sure-fire way to turn a song into a hit!) The single reached #2 in the UK, although speculation ran rampant that the BBC rigged the charts to prevent it from hitting #1, an act that Wikipedia claims the BBC now admits, and that the song did indeed top the chart. A&M Records had pressed a small number of singles shortly before the Sex Pistols signed with Virgin Records. Those A&M copies are reportedly now some of the most valuable records ever printed in the UK, and Record Collector Magazine claims that the A&M prints are the most collectable records of all-time. I have linked to the legendary footage of the band performing the song on a boat on the River Thames on the Jubilee Holiday. Eleven people were arrested upon docking. Enjoy! (No future in England's dreaming info verified by Wikipedia)

@arthurchappell - Not everyone can be Rush or Yes. But if you can walk into a studio and come out with that, you're pretty good!

@marguicha - True. I was only 13 when this came out, so I was about the right age to start getting into it.

Hey, tourists are money. As for me, I don’t know what I want but I know how to get it. Mediocre choice, if you ask me. I’d call it pretty vacant.

I think so. I know that I've used "Anarchy in the UK" a couple of times, so it wouldn't surprise me

I really love them, they are one of the best. But I need to confess that I loved when Metallica made a cover of "Stone Cold Crazy".

That was a good one. I like Metallica's covers.
