I have always been making two sets of red packets to my kids. One set is given by me, and another set is for my husband to give them to the kids. After making the simple felt doggie red packets, I also crocheted these dog packets. I wanted to find some simple patterns, and finally found this. It's actually ornaments for Christmas, and I just make two pieces and sewed them together. Tomorrow is the first day of Chinese New Year, and I am going to give these to my kids tomorrow morning. Hope they will like them. Do you know which animal was it when you were born?

Thanks. Making these unusual red packets to the kids have become a tradition in my home now. My eldest son said I have to make 12 sets, each for a animal, then we can reuse them in future.

Gong Hee Fot Choy! Here in Hawaii on Oahu Chinatown is a buzz with excitement for the Year of the Dog is beginning. Though this year no parade for the association that sponsors it doesn't have enough money for it. The Chinese Cultural Center is still having celebrations with the lion dances. You just got to go and see it in person at least once and if you have a dollar extend your arm with your dollar in hand and the lion will come and put his mouth by your hand to take your dollar and give you a blessing dance afterwards! (Celebrations at the Chinese Cultural Plaza took place Feb. 10, 2018.) Don't forget the Gau! This link has other Chinese New Year's celebrations: https://youtu.be/uhpDtqAxg88

Gong Hee Fat Choy! It's nice to see this Cantonese greeting here. The celebration there looks great! So are you visiting the Chinese Cultural Center today or tomorrow? We are bringing our kids to see lion dance every year too. The kids just like them. Sometimes the lions will give us some Mandarin oranges.
