The next time you feel down and out about having a piece of your writing rejected just take a minute or two to read the image I have provided. Each and every person on this list has received a rejection letter concerning a piece of their writing. Some of them several times by different publishing companies. So next time you think to yourself, I can't stand it any more. Next time you decided you are just going to give up writing. Just look at this list of famous authors who have been where you are now. Don't give up. Sometimes it is not your writing. Sometimes it's the wrong person reading it.

I think most writers of note have been rejected a number of times. And even more should have had their writing rejected.

@HazySue Sometimes it seems you just need to find the right editor - as you say.

That's true too. Sometimes I wonder how some books made it through to get published. It's all in the editor that reads it.

There's a lot of wisdom in your last sentence. I've never tried to get anything published, so it doesn't apply to me.

So many people give up after the first rejection. They need to keep on trying.

I don't write professionally and I don't think I'm good at it so I never really thought of becoming one. But this is one good piece of advice that applies not only to a writer but to those who are trying to do something in their life.

When someone REALLY wants something, that someone has to really work at it and not get discouraged by others.

I was discouraged from writing all the time, but I always came back to it. I just couldn't stay away. After I learned how to make my own cover art and format ebooks for self-publishing, it's what I do. I'm still in the fledgling stage, but yesterday I made $25 in profits, so I'm getting close to my goals, little by little. Today I've made about $2... oh well. The day isn't over yet! XD I figure I need about 100 more short stories before I can accomplish my immediate goal.

rejections ne'er bothered me. i dribbled (wrote proper when such'd deemed necessary) more so fer myself. that bein' said, 'tis true what'cha say. catch'em'n a day when they're hurried/disgruntled, etc 'n such ne'er gets a decent review. they read such'n other places 'n all 'f a sudden, they're givin' ya a ring. 'r so'd 't been back'n the day. not certain how such works'n these modern times?

That's so true. There are many different reasons why someone's work is rejected. One day the person may read it and think it's garbage because they are having a bad day. But,, catch them on a good day and the same person may think the writer is a genius.

@HazySue I've never given up on writing, but I did give up trying to be traditionally published. It's not that I don't like reject letters, but really who does, but that the more I was rejected, and the more I learned, the more I found out traditional publishers prefer picking up people who are self-published with a following. So, that's what I'm doing - trying to get a following - those who are buying my books.

@HazySue That is so true. I have read some things and not liked them and if I reread them later on I wondered how I ever thought they were not good. Most of the times I think back on my day when I did read them and realize I had some issues that put me in a weird mood.

I am happy to read your discussion. I think it is good to share this to other writers so they will stop and think about this and maybe hold on to their dreams as a writer and not give up but move forward and continue writing and eventually, one day, knock on wood, get something they have written, published.
