I'm unemployed

I joined a startup 8 months back last year. The business is stagnant and it did not go as planned. Now I got laid off but my boss still wants me to contribute. He hopes I can stay and work for him part-time with no pay until he got the angel funding in then he will pay me as if I was working full time.
I know I am the only one who can make the decision for myself. What I want to say is the hit of uncertainty and failure in my face is hard to take this time. I have to repeatedly tell myself that this too shall pass. I hide this fact from family and friends. I do not want them to feel sorry for me or pity me. For many reasons, I have been struggling a lot since adulthood. I try to stay positive but I'm scared deep down. I question my ability, why I suck so much, I may not be able to deliver any decent work...

Thanks for your advice. We talked yesterday and he really wants to keep me but he has to let me go due to the financial crisis we're having now. I don't know if what he says is true. He seems nice at times but I did not completely trust him. We are just a team of 5 people and I'm one of the founding members. I do take ownership of this business. It is hard to walk away from what I have invested a lot of my effort in.

@Allamanda - this is a sign to start your own business, prove him he was wrong in letting you go.

My boss has nothing to pay me anymore but he still hopes I will continue to work for him.. :). The thing with startup is I do not want to be the fool who walk out too early but I also do not want to be the fool who walk out too late. I'm trying to freelance in the meantime, I hope it will work well.

Best wishes in whatever you decide. I see you crochet. Have you thought about selling it for a little extra money? I sell mine on line. Message me if you want more info.

Hi, I did think about selling my crochet products but.. I am so much of an amateur. It took me 5-8 times longer to do anything. For instance, I saw a 1-hour project, jumped on it, and then it took me 2 nights to complete. So it's not a very scalable idea for me. Besides, Vietnam is a tropical country, I live in the south where it's hot all year round, the demand for crochet is not much. Thank you for your concern. Right now I just freelance doing translation work.

You can try humanatic if you have got paypal. Don't worry there's a lot of us here having a hard time. But were lucky enough to be blessed with what we still have.

Thank you. I will try that site. Is it similar to Upwork? I am trying to build my business on Upwork. I am getting tired of the corporate world and want to try freelancing for a while.

He understands it but I think he has no other options. He told me to find jobs in the meantime and come back when he gets the fund and yeah, work for free during that time. I talked to him yesterday and he sounded sincere. I do not completely trust him but it actually would be a good deal for me if he can secure some investment. I will get paid full time though I only work with half the effort. It is risky though.

Do not ever think those horrible thoughts !! My mother always told me to get up when I fell down. There are plenty of jobs with people that will treat u better. It may be a blessing. When one door closes another opens!! So true
