I Kissed the Plumber

This morning I went over to my daughters as my son was coming to install the new hot water heater. I haven't seen my son since Christmas and it was so nice to get a big hug and kiss from my baby boy
Saturday is a busy day at my daughters house. My granddaughter had to go to the high school for something and my grandson had his karate lessons. Both were in opposite directions and of course at the same time. I stayed at the house while my daughter took her daughter to school and my other daughter did the trip to the karate class.
I'm amazed at how my son is able to do what he does. He unloaded the hot water tank from his truck all by himself, carried it down to the basement and started working. He is changing the system from natural gas to electric which he said would work better in his sisters house. It was less expensive too.
I'm so proud of my son. He floundered for awhile after some years in college and didn't know what he wanted to do. He tried his hand at a few jobs but nothing kept his interest. He isn't the type to sit still for long so a desk job wasn't his cup of tea.
After years of working with a big plumbing company he decided to start his own business. Now, years later he's successful and is a fully licensed plumber and electrician. Although he's a one man show and does all the work himself he's able to provide for his family and I don't worry about them financially.
I missed seeing my daughter in law and the grandsons today but work is work and they weren't able to tag along. Now my son is off to another job he has this afternoon and I'm sure he's tired when he gets home at night.
We're going to have a family get together in two weeks and celebrate two birthdays.
That's how my Saturday started....what's going on with you today?

Isn't it funny how, no matter how old they get, we still see our kids as 'our babies'?

That's fabulous. People can do really well in the trades, especially plumbers and electricians. Today I just stayed home and tried to stop my intestines from feeling like they were twisting. After not having milk for years I had some Friday. What a regret!

Plumbers are always in demand. Your son picked a good profession. No sitting still with that job!

That is so wonderful!!!! My brother abused me in every way possible and the only way he would have done anything to my water heater would be to fix it so it would blow up while I was sleeping at night.
Your allowing your son to find his own way in what he wanted to do for a living was super. Too many parents, mine included, try to force their children into professions that "they" feel are right for the child. My father spent many many years trying to force me into the military. I am artistically inclined and am a very independent thinker and am NOT a follower. My joining the military would be like dressing a mule up in a tutu and trying to get it to dance the main ballet dance from Swan Lake! After forty years I am doing two jobs I love. I design and create award winning teddy bears and I work a half day a week at an antique store. I pay physically for the latter as my legs, ankles, and back ache from my being on my feet for 3.5 hours but I wouldn't give it up for the world. A HUGE thumbs up to you for being such a great Mom! (When you se your son at the birthday gathering, give him a hug from me for being such a great son and brother!)

Thank you so much for your kind words. They meant a lot.
I'm glad that you found your way in the world and success! I admire anyone who has artistic talents.
I couldn't imagine forcing anyone to join the military

That's great you son is doing so well. Does he only install and work on new plumbing or does he fix up old plumbing when things go wrong too?

Most of the plumbers and electrician`s I know are loners on the job as well, maybe hire one person when needed, all own their own businesses as well. Its good money!
I can do some of the plumbing but I will not even think about hooking up anything electric.
I am glad you have a good day.
