I was born in West Virginia about 90 miles from Pittsburgh. I have a sister in law from Pittsburgh. Once, when traveling from California to West Virginis by car, my husband and I stopped at a restaurant in Kansas. As I listened to the woman in the next booth, speaking to her daughter, I had to ask her. "Are you from Pittsburgh?" She was shocked, but said "Yes." I explained: "you sound just like my sister in law." Of course, no one really believes they have a pronounced accent, but most of us do. I've been to PA many times. As a family, we used to go watch the Pirates play baseball and we went to Kennywood Park several times. King Charles II, in payment for a debt, gave William Penn the land that was christened Pennsylvania in 1681. William Penn established a Quaker colony there. Later German immigrants, Mennonites (Amish) also settled there. Pennsylvania is the 2nd state of the original 13 colonies. Nickname: Keystone State Motto: Virtue, Lliberty, and Independence
