Just Dropped It

It is very rarely I drop a book. I normally do not care how long a book is, how much of the story I do not care about, I like to see things through because sometimes you never know. Those last 2 pages of the book might be worth it.
But I guess I will never know if it was worth it in the end because I just dropped reading 2666 by Roberto Bolaño
So 2666 is kind of a big deal because it was Bolaño's last book before he passed away and it was published in 2004.
I was looking at a list of Books to read and that was on the list, and I thought, okay, let's try it. I normally like to go into reading books or watching movies or tv shows, blindly. I normally do not read summaries, it is kind of fun.
I was about 20 pages into to this book and I just needed to look up a summary because as I reading I was screaming what is the point!
These people are obsessed with this German author and they translate his stuff and do all of these things. And I'm just like Okay, okay sure! Yeah! Good for you guys, but why do I care.
And I get like another 80 pages in, and I just couldn't do it anymore. I just could not connect to anything. I feel like if you are a person that doesn't get emotionally involved into books, here you go, read this because this is the most emotionally detached book I have read.
I was physically getting angry because this book just had no point for me. It wasn't boring, but I just found no point. I feel bad for saying that because this book is such a big deal for some people because this was the last book of this author and that is pretty special, but it just wasn't for me.
Have you ever read this book? Are you a person that drops books a lot? I am not, I haven't dropped a book since I was in middle school. I cannot remember the name of the book I dropped, I think I still have it, but it was complete garbage. I don't like dropping books, until a book is making it actually so angry that I want to chuck it because it is just a waste of my time. But it might not be a waste of time to someone else.

That is a very common book to read in high school. I never read it.

@gaianoor It is considered a classic. But I was in honors English classes so we did more advanced books.

This is a book I have never heard of until now. Looking it up right now I do not think I have ever read anything by him. Goodreads shows it's rated pretty highly but of course not every book is for everyone. I rarely will quit a book either but few times they were just so boring or confusing that I gave up.

@DesirousDreamer hmm I'm guessing your need for a point is likely you take things very literally like I do. Makes me very critical of movies and books.

@shaggin No, I am not very literal at all. I can let my mind wander, probably why I'm a writer. But it is when a book drones on and on and gives no connection that my brain can wander into the book. Then it just isn't fun anymore.

I never heard of him either, I just saw it on a list and decided to read it. Everywhere has high ratings of it, and people are like "You don't need to have a point when you read his work!" And how does one read a book without a point? Especially a book as long as this one. It was just silly.

I wouldn't try this book again, it just isn't good for me haha It isn't hard for me to get into the book, it just didn't have a point that appealed to me.

I like to give myself a challenge. I love reading, so even if a book is hot garbage, I still try.
