I was told from childhood that money can't buy respect. But nowadays i see people are getting respect only because they have money. No one bother to even recognize people who are working selflessly for society. They don't even want to help others because of fear that they might upset wealthy and powerful people.
Do you too experienced this?

Don't envy someone who is getting respect because of money. He knows that when the money goes, the respect will turn to hatred. I have seen that. So, the rich work harder to keep the money and that puts lots of strain on their lives. Is that the type of respect you want? I want a respect for what I am and what I represent.

In my view, respect is not what money gets anyone. What money buys, is pretense. Rich people encounter a lot of fake people around them. Who pretend to be polite to keep their jobs.
Everyone has their own motives.
So what you heard in your childhood is right. Money cant buy respect.
Respect is what we give to another from our own will, it is earnt by actions.
