Have you ever looked at the Internet Archive? Sometimes called the WayBack Machine. (Some of you may recognize this name. It is what I called the Archive when helping you rescue some of your articles after Bubbs was closed.) Were you aware you can view as well as download things from the Archive? At last count the Archive contained: 279 billion web pages 11 million books and texts 4 million audio recordings (including 160,000 live concerts) 3 million videos (including 1 million Television News programs) 1 million images 100,000 software programs All this media takes up over 60 Petabytes of space on their servers. All media is viewable and depending on a few things, many of these are downloadable with your free Archive account. (Books published before 1923 can be downloaded in several digital versions. Newer books may be borrowed, just like in your home town library. Some digitized books are available to the print disabled.) You are also able to upload your own ebooks, music, art, movies, etc. through your free account, too. Just as an FYI, for the right person/people, there are also some jobs available working for the Internet Archive, too. You can access all this at:

@vandana7 What, vanny? How am I being evil this time? All I said was that WorDazza's wife was beautiful and he.... wasn't! (Otherwise, I think I was being very nice.)

The archive still lacks a search engine. When it will have one this site will be a killer !

Sigh...I think it is a bit early ...relevant technologies need to be in place. Otherwise, it will be slow with search engines.

@DaddyEvil I am just realizing that they have added a simple search engine to the web archives. Not very performing but better than nothing like you tell. I am told by JJ that they do not store everything permanently : they had some pages of a mylot account he created in 2006 that are no more there.

@topffer Yeah, I read something about ownership issues with some web pages they archived and then deleted. (I don't know if that is the reason the pages you mentioned were deleted or not, but with multiple authors per page, any one of the people who posted could have requested the page(s) be deleted and they would be taken down.) Pretend for a second that I requested this page be archived. If you objected, then the page would not be saved.

I wonder if I can upload my videos there. Do you think it will survive hundreds of years?

It will survive as long as they will find the funding to maintain the servers. It is a good thing that the cost for the bandwith decreases every year, or they would perhaps not be there anymore.

According to the rules for uploading that I read there, you should be able to post your videos. The Internet Archive is being set up and run to save everything in perpetuity. It sounds like a better way to save videos, photos and books than using disks or flash drives, to me. I've started uploading family photographs already.

I fully agree with @topffer without a search engine is only partially useful at the moment.

@DaddyEvil It is very basic and for the moment it does not seem to work very well. I tired several different searches and I never got a result.

@DaddyEvil my sister couldn’t pronounce my name when she’s was little so that’s what she called me. I started signing it on note to friends as a teen. Used it on all the sites I’ve been at and if I could I’d change it but I worry people won’t know me here if I do. I can’t think what to change it to either.

@DaddyEvil No. I still prefer the old-fashioned kind of books but I find that magazines are fine. Right now, I'm reading the April 1978 issue of Playboy. I mostly read magazines (And catalogs. I've found several of the items I've found metal detecting in old catalogs, things that I didn't know what they were before I saw them in a catalog) from 1890-1985 but sometimes I go earlier or later if the subject matter is really good. I also occasionally read old newspapers there and brochures and other things. There is a lot of stuff there.

@xander6464 I PREFER paper books, too, but have found I forget them when I take them with me to the doctor's office or somewhere else I have to sit and wait for something. I don't leave my phone, though, so don't leave my books behind anymore, either.

Off topic is always fine in my discussions, Aniko! I tried to tell you about myLot just before Bubbs closed down but I decided they shut the site down before you received my message. I am so happy you finally found myLot and ME, too! Everything is going well for my daughter, Pretty, and I! How about you? Are you still with the same boyfriend you had on Bubbs?

@DaddyEvil I think I left bubblews before it was closed because of some missing payment. Once I wanted to open my bubbs account and the site was unavailable. I focused on my offline job and I wasn't active in the last 3 (?) years. I tried to find you during these years, but I could. It is so nice to hear that you and Pretty are good. Yes, it is the same boyfriend. Now we live together and it is fun. :)

@DaddyEvil Congrats for your degree! I am sure that it is useful for your job. And it is good to hear that you are not tired of learning new things. I found a stable workplace and I like my job. I made some exams last year (and the year before), now I finished my studies totally and trying to avoid universities. We had our up and downs with my boyfriend, but now our relationship is very good. I think both of us has changed and we can have a nice life together. Thanks for the emoji helpdesk. I didn't know about it and I never pushed mylot code before. But now I can be an emoji pro user.

Every major site online has an archive where anything you do there is stored. The WayBack Machine (or the Internet Archive, as it is also called) stores things from all over the internet. You can enter things into the Internet Archive yourself, if you want to make sure something is 'permanently' stored there. You're welcome, Hanni. (smiling at you)
