Time to be irresponsible / adventurous?

I was a long time absent because of having so much work last month. It really amazes me that whole months of my life pass with me doing the same - eating, sleeping, working.
I met one of my long lost buddies couple days ago and he's been traveling a lot, working random jobs, living spontaneously and it made me wonder...should I just quit everything and go for one year adventure?
I have enough money saved to live couple months without a job for sure. I don't really have commitments. All I have is boiling blood for adventure. Perhaps, I should just this once be a little irresponsible and not plan, just go to live for a bit and settle later.
What do you think?

We all have one life. Might as well make it the best. If the math is right and you can take care of yourself during the adventure as well as after, then go for it!

If I didn't have two kids to support, I would have taken off a long time ago on some crazy worldwide adventure. Thankfully, both of my kids are teens now, so it won't be long before they are grown and out of the house. I only have 4 more years until I can retire with a full pension from my job, so you can bet at that point I will be off on some grand adventure! My first plan is to hike the entire Appalachian Trail from beginning to end. I also want to hike the entire coastline of Florida as well. I do a lot of backpacking, so many of my crazy adventures will somehow involved hiking, backpacking and camping.

My great aunt left me some money in her will and I was so sensible to by with that money a little cottage in a village close to Canterbury in Kent. It is a county known as the garden of England. That was in 1991 and I worked in a shipping company. I was made redundant in 1993 and in 1992 I had received more money from the sale of my great aunts possessions. I decided to let out my cottage and go off on a world adventure. I booked an around the world ticket and got a working holiday visa for Australia. I am now in a very different situation because I have an 11 year old disabled son that is in a wheelchair and an 8 year old daughter. We are finding it expensive to travel in the school holidays. We still manage to do this though because I so love to travel to different countries.
