The wrong kind of snow!

What do kids most like to do when a decent amount of snow has fallen? Throw snowballs and make snowmen, of course! However, the recent snowfall in the UK has proved to be useless for the latter objective. It appears that the snow is far too dry and powdery to srtick together in large enough quantities for snowman construction. However, it is quite all right for skiing and tobogganing, so the kids will have something to do instead!

Why not skis? You see plenty of kids using short skis when the conditions are right - which is not often, it is true. Mind you, we have a number of indoor ski slopes in this country, and plenty of users of all ages!

@indexer When I think skiing, it's mountain slopes and I know the UK has no Rocky Mountains.

@JohnRoberts There are certainly some outdoor ski centres, such as in the Cairngorms of Scotland. You don't need all that much of a slope to make skiing interesting - and we've got plenty of slopes!

I don't know much about it as we don't have snowfall at our place. We live in plain area where the temperature doesn't go down to the freezing point.

That type of snow is easier to shovel

How much snow did you receive? I think snowmen are adorable.

Not a huge amount, but it drifted in the strong wind and caused some transport problems. Most of it has now melted where we are.

Yes, one needs the right kind of snow for making snowballs and snowmen.

Here in Alberta the snow is always too dry for snowmen when it first falls. Have to wait for the temperatures to rise, then it softens.
