Hello all my dear friends in myLot! I hope this post finds you well~~
This is Xiaomo, I am sending my greetings and best wishes to all of you from Greece!
Oooooh, I miss Chinese food so much! Emmm, it's not so easy to find traditional, authentic, or at least tasty Chinese food here, hahaOne day I went to a Chinese restaurant with my husband, I found that all dishes there are just made with the same sauce! With tons of soya sauce! The chef is from China, but I don't know why she cook in in this way, far from "traditional Chinese cuisine" It makes me feel like they are making fool of people who do not know too much about Chinese food
I think I'd better cook Chinese food myself at home, but there is another problem, I couldn't find the food ingredients needed, haha, emm, I think this situation is implying me that I should instantly shift my focus to Greek food, actually Greek dishes are really veeery delicious! It is just that, my naughty stomach can't help thinking Chinese food, hahaha
Oh sorry, let's come back to our subjectWould you mind telling me what's your favorite Chinese food?
Let me start by saying my favorite Chinese dishes:
Chinese Beer Braised Duck
Red-cooked Perch Fish
Red-cooked Beef
Chinese Braised Duck
Sichuan-Style Bon Bon Chicken
Steamed Pork Belly with Taro
...
and so much more!

Yeah, I agree with what you said. Those dishes they make are “international Chinese food ”, not traditional Chinese food, hahaEmmm, we can find some Asian markets here in Greece, but it is a little bit far away from my home, it takes about one hour to go there-- by car, haha

I am spoiled here in that we have many Chinese restaurants here (not sure about authenticity) and Asian markets to buy Asian ingredients. I have many favorites . . . but I love any noodle dish (chow mein, lo mein), char siu bao, any kind of fried rice, many dishes for dim sum or yum cha, won ton soup, red bean soup, simple vegetables to seafood . . . and many more! I recently made mapo dofu at home!

@miketagz Hasma is a nata de coco like dessert made of female frog's ovaries and fallopian tube.

I have two 'Chinese Take-aways' (Chinese-style fast food outlets) and two Asian supermarkets within walking distance of my house, so not only can I eat 'international-style Chinese' dishes but I can also buy the less well known ingredients if I want to prepare Chinese recipes myself.
The foods I most enjoy are Roast Duck with Hoisin Sauce (the wrappers and the other usual accompaniments - finely shredded spring onion and cucumber - are usually provided as well), Beef in Black Bean sauce and Sweet-Sour Pork or Chicken balls. There are several others I could mention but these are the three I choose most often. These are all, I believe, popular and generally available dishes in UK Chinese takeaways but whether they are genuine Chinese or not I can't say.
I also like to cook stir fried dishes at home and for this many of our ordinary supermarkets (not the Asian ones I mentioned) provide packs of ready prepared vagetables (bean sprouts, mushrooms, onion, cabbage and shredded carrot) and packets or jars of some of the common sauces - sweet and sour, black bean, 'chop suey' and several others. Often I will make my own simple sauce, though, with whatever ingredients I have to hand - generally ginger, garlic, soy sauce and fish sauce (which I believe is Indonesian or Thai rather than Chinese).

Wow, my dear friend, you must be a great chef! Emmm, there must be much more Asian supermarkets in England than here, I have some friends living in London, they can easily buy Chinese ingredients like bitter melon, tofu, Auricularia auricula, fermented soya beans, broad-bean sauce and so on... Can you imagine that it takes almost one hour for me to go to the nearest Chinese supermarket here, by car I mean, hahaha
Roast Duck is also one of my favorite! I mean those from restaurants or roast duck shops. I have tried to make it myself at home, but not so tasty like I expected, haha,I like black bean sauce, too, with beef or with fish or with chicken wings! Last time I bought some from online Chinese market, for a period of time,it has been the main character at the
dining-table

I think most of us know that Chinese restaurants here are not traditional, and the same for Mexican, or any other ethnic food. I do not think I have a favorite.

Hearty Welcome dear friend @Xiaomo to Mylot! In India we get so called Chinese dishes which will make a person from China surpriced and shocked as they are prepared in a typical Indian style with lot of vegetables and spices added to them.
But then we have some authentic Chinese Restaurants which serve some genuine stuff. Though we don't often visit Chinese restaurants very frequently, but Chow-min and Chili Chicken are the dishes I relish most! Thanks!

Haha, my dear friend, yeah I really got shocked when I took a dish called “Chinese style stir fried beef” in a Chinese restaurant here,it was some beef with tons of onions and soya sauce, some people may like it, but it is just too heavy for my stomach~~ Chili chicken is also one of my favorite! I really miss the Szechuan style chili chicken now, haha
