I am a Filipino and I just want to know what are your perceptions to my fellow countrymen. Say something POSITIVE and/or NEGATIVE about us. I wanna know what makes us great and at the same time worst. Cite some experiences. I wanna hear your stories! :)

@NoorNoor there a many Filipino domestic helpers in Kuwait before but the President pulled them out last month. The issue is about domestic violence. Some Filipinos are abused by their employers.
I'm glad that your mom had a nice experience with Filipinos.

We have a lot of Filipino friends! In general, I say they are most generous, always hospitable, and many are such hard workers that they go above and beyond! Our friends are quite open and we can talk forever about almost anything and have good laughs. I know Filipinos are big on family and a sense of community. They also have tons of food at their dinners/parties and many enjoy karaoke .

Yes. Filipinos have extended families. A Filipino house may have 5-8 members including the grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. lol We also serve lots of foods especially during the town fiesta. Our famous Filipino food is the adobo and lechon. And yes, karaoke cannot be missed. In every Filipino celebration, there is always a karaoke.

@Lunarus One family we know has the elder parents, parents, and one child there. We know many others who do not have much family here, so the bigger families "adopt" the smaller ones so they will not be alone (they all get together and take care of each other whenever possible). Our friend's "Nanay" makes us pancit for these gatherings because she knows we like it. I've had adobo and lechon as well! Another family we know has their handy dandy Magic Microphone for these karaoke parties .

I served in the Navy with a lot of Filipinos. Some had a very strong accent that I had to acclimate myself to, but they were — and still are — my brothers and sisters in uniform.

@Lunarus -- my master chief was from Alabama (where they have very pronounced southern accents), and our master-at-arms was Filipino. One day the master at arms came in and said, "Master Chief, can I borrow your hammer?" With his accent, though, it sounded like he said hummer. My master chief, with that thick Alabama accent, replied, "Hummer? I ain't got no damn hummer!" One of my favorite memories of my time stationed in Jacksonville.
There are many different accents in the US, too, and people in New England make fun of the southerners and southerners make fun of New Englanders. It's all part of how you learned to talk, including pronouncing things, when you were growing up.

Thank you for treating them kindly. Some Filipinos have strong accents since we have lots of dialects here. They are used to their dialect's accent which influences the way they speak English. We speak 3 different languages (Mother Tongue, Filipino and English) so the shifting of accents sometimes confuses us.

Filipinos are hardworking, beautiful, and smart. Some tend to complain much. And on weekends lots of them meet in the mall for coffee. They are boisterous ..and sometimes they argue so loudly.

I knew of some Filipinos who lived in Panama and in Louisiana. They are wonderful people to play bowling against, Now I have retired from bowling to be a blogger.

Welcome to Mylot. You can add in your profile about your location so we could see it besides with your name. I'm a Filipino the positive traits of a Filipino is that they're hardworking, happy, family-oriented, religious. and friendly. The negative trait is crab mentality.
