Superstitions are the belief that something
you do, say or see will bring good or bad
luck despite there being zero scientific
proof.
Some believe number 13 to be unlucky or
will avoid walking under ladders, stepping on
cracks in the street believing it will bring bad
luck to them.
I'm not superstitious personally but most of
the men in my family were fishermen and all
were very superstitious! I'm guessing due to
the dangers involved with their job they didn't
like to tempt fate.
Some of the superstitions they believed were
no females or church ministers on boats. Not
setting sail on Sunday despite none of them
being religious!
Certain things were unlucky if you even
mentioned them by correct name such as rabbits were only ever called bunnies in our house! I have
no idea how a rabbit came to be unlucky to a fisherman but I got told off a million times for
saying rabbit!
One of the strangest superstitions observed
by both my grandfathers and my dad was
they wouldn't go to sea if they met a certain
old lady on their way to the boat.
The old lady was said to be a spey wife which
is an old Scot's term for a fortune teller or
psychic. When my dad was young he didn't
believe the tales from older fishermen so
when he met her on his way to the harbour
he went out to sea thinking he'd disprove
the superstition.
During that trip the boat had engine problems
and they lost 2 nets and came back with
no catch. I still say it was just bad luck but
from that day he believed the tales and went
the long route to the harbour to avoid meeting
her.
Are you superstitious and what's the strangest
superstition you've heard of?

Yes, I would think rabbits would be good luck since their foots seem to be a lucky charm. And with St. Patrick's day upon us a four leaf clover would be useful in bringing one luck. Also I have seen fuzzy dice hanging inside cars so they are supposed to be a lucky symbol. And some cultures believe lady bugs bring luck so don't kill them. Also, the number 7 is very lucky to people who play number games although my lucky number is 4. And don't forget about change... Find a penny, pick it up, and all that day you'll have good luck! Finally, a rainbow promises gold at the end so those are lucky to see. So, perhaps mentioning all these good luck charms makes me a bit superstitious

Nope....i think the biggest superstition is Ghost. Are they alive for an eternity or they simply don't exist. Some people believe yes ghosts have a life too and they have seen them. I have came across a place called 'Vangarh' in India. Local People still believe ghosts live here and they do their regular activities at night. It's unclear whether its a superstition or not.
