Food truck origins date back to push cart vendors in 17th Century New York City (known as New Amsterdam at the time) and the Chuck Wagons post Civil War.
Today we have food trucks in every state in the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii. More than 4,000 food truck vendors occupy the country generating 1.2 billion in revenue.
Any food trucks in your town? What's there specialty?

Food trucks are a big deal here. I do not partake. Not sanitary enough.

@dgobucks226 for NY you have to be licensed and are subject to inspection as well as passing an exam as a food handler.

That is a good point about the sanitation. I guess they have to be approved by the board of health, but it still could be risky. I always wondered about the safety of those street vendor carts in NYC?

My girlfriend knows a couple out in Portland that opened a baked potato truck. I scoffed at it, but they are raking it in!

@dgobucks226 - I've seen photos and their menu. Very creative.

You can probably create a pretty appetizing menu with a baked potato. Kind of like eating a healthier version of a hot dog.

@teamfreak16 I bet! And baked potatoes with different toppings are tasty. It's a great concept for a fast food truck! Easy, as in easy peasy....

@dgobucks226 I'm not sure as I don't live in the town but there aren't many takeaway type shops so I should think they would do quite well.

I guess they would be more popular in the cities. Does your Chicken Treat do much of a business?

The Mexican food is very popular in certain areas of the U.S. On the east coast it is hot dogs, burgers and fries, but some trucks are starting to expand their menu.

It's better to buy food in fast-food outlets it's cheaper here.

Do they offer a better menu than fast food places. Most people where I live just buy subs in those fast food stores.

Food trucks have become very popular. Back in the old days I had a hot dog wagon in NY and it was a fun way to make a living.

Those hot dog wagons are still popular. Many towns around where I live have them. Simple but convenient.

That sounds really good. Definitely different than a hot dog or hamburger. Where I am, trucks are starting to offer other alternatives like different filled tacos.
