Today I was watching random Walking Dead interview videos on YouTube and I learned that the name of my favourite Walking Dead actor is not really Andrew Lincoln but Andrew Clutterbuck. According to Andrew, he was advised to change his surname in order to have a more successful career. He has been told that his surname sounds like a one of a hobbit. I can’t understand why producers or anyone else for that matter would care about the sound of people’s real surnames. I don’t think I would ever change my surname for anyone. And I think that Andrew would’ve done well even with his original surname. Would you change your surname if that promised better opportunities?

We have a Clutterbuck family living in my town .. I don't think I would like to be called that but it is memorable. I like my surname but if it meant I could prosper from changing it I probably would or at least use a double barreled name so I could still keep my own. I wouldn't want to forget who I am and where I came from.

@Madshadi Lots of celebrities do change their name in the hope that it will make them more famous.

A double barrelled name sounds like a better option if you wouldn’t want the real one to stick.

There are many who have changed the name(s). You wouldn't think Engelbert Humperdinck would be a good name for a potential 'star' but he was born Arnold George Dorsey. Hopefully if they have talent the name shouldn't matter.

I think people would eventually get used to saying their names, regardless of how they sound. The talent is what matters

No I won't change my surnames. It gives identity who I am. I never do that.

That’s true. I don’t think a surname is something people should change
