How do you tell yourself no?

I struggle with being a bit of an impulse buyer at times. Yesterday, while I was out waitinf for my pizza I checked in a store I like simply because it is the only place I know of you can get low calorie white birch beer soda, Upon entering the store, I found two carts full of half priced craft beers. Treasure trove! Anyway, no one really needs beer, and I just had some last weekend. I didn't pay much for one..but it is typical of how I shop..when I see something I like, as long as I have a method to pay for it..I will buy it at least half the time. I am not terrible..I mean I could have bought coppertop pans when I saw them last week and resisted, but I would like to get to a point where I just buy what is intended and nothing more. How do you talk yourself out of buying extra's? Fiscally disciplined people, I want to hear from you!

I ask myself, do I really need that? I don't like to have things that just sit there.

@1hopefulman I do not! It's that willfull child in charge of my actions again. She needs to go to time out..and let the adult person be in charge!

@snowy22315 I see you have a serious problem. You don't listen to yourself.

I'm a bit like you but I've learned that if you leave the store as soon as you get the burning desire to buy, you will calm down and resist the temptation. I come over all hot when I really want to buy something and telling myself I don't really need it doesn't work. I have to leave the store and that works for me.

It wasn't a terrible purchase, but probably unnecessary.

@snowy22315 The occasional treat doesn't do much harm

@sprite1950 It is true, but I would say, I do it more than is needed or practical.

Places like Dollar Tree I think kind of bank on people buying extra items..like you go in there for spaghetti sauce and come out with 10 items you hadn't planned on buying..

@snowy22315 Some places probably do. Let's face it, they want us to spend money.

We have times where we resist too, but sometimes, its just hard and we cant.. or don't want to. Have to give in sometimes I think.

Know your wants and your needs. Only buy those things that are really in need. =)

Yes, but what if you find some great deals? I mean I probably would have bought this at some point and paid more for it!
