It's from my hike today with me friend from my previous job. We went to the top of "Wild Cat Peak" (about 1400 ft) and also visited the small lakes at the bottom of the valley.

Boy do I envy your having good places to walk. Turtles sunning themselves in a swamp/wetlands?

In childhood days, I would sneak up on turtles in a canoe and catch them.

I can only tell you it's a couple birds and their babies. What kind of bird, I don't know. Interesting species. I hope someone knows what kind it is.

@just4him Heh. I haven't seen sunning turtles in quite awhile. It was a part of my childhood at Summer Camp in Michigan.

@TheHorse Well, I was way off. Those branches made it look like a couple birds.

@Hannihar Heh. It reminded me of my childhood days, when my friends and I would sneak up on painted turtles in a canoe and catch them. They weren't particularly happy about being caught, so we'd release them immediately.

@TheHorse To me it looks like a rope going across an area and in the dark anyone that does not have a flashlight can run into it.

Years ago I saw something similar when I was traveling back home from Albuquerque. I was following a friend (we'd gone in separate cars) and stopped at a nature preserve some 50 or so miles south of Albuquerque and saw a lot of turtles doing pretty much what those turtles are doing, sunning themselves on floating wood or what not, I remember trying to get photos of them but when they saw me they ran, literally. Turtles aren't that slow when they're frightened.

When I was at Summer Camp in Michigan, we'd "sneak up" on sunning turtles in our canoes. The person in the stern had to know how to "aim" the canoe, and then stop paddling (let us drift) as we approached them. The person in the bow had to have good hands to catch them as they slid from lily pads into the water.

@TheHorse It was the year 1980 if I remember well, it is still available online as a vintage freeware, but the modern computers are too fast, you cannot play it.

Those look like baby turtles, on top of a piece of wood, that fell in the water.
