My two concurrent music series right now look at "big" and "little" songs, or my favorites that have the word "big" or "little" in the title. With the "big" song already posted, it's time for the little song. Today's "little" song is by a big legend! Here it is.
#9: Stay a Little Longer - Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys
Want to know just how gigantic this man's career was? He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 for his "early influence" on rock and roll. He's one of a handful of country musicians who's appeared on a US postage stamp. Needless to say, he's also in the Country and Western Swing halls of fame.
Wills wasn't the first to take the swinging jazz of the 30s and marry it to country music (more precisely, the "square dance" type of country music). But he's the one that everyone thinks of when you mention western swing.
And this is one of his most memorable hits. Dating to 1945, it's since been covered by, gee, name a person! Two other notable charted versions were by fellow Hall of Famers Willie Nelson (1973) and Mel Tillis (1982), but anywhere there's Texas western swing being played you'll find this song.

Yes, indeed. And "his day" lasted for a long time, from the 30s until he had a stroke in 1973 after a recording session. The influence is still there, too.

I've probably already told you about the bar in Downtown Colorado Springs with the almost exclusively punk rock jukebox. But it does contain two Bob Wills CD's, and they receive regular play.

May I add one to your list? I'm almost 100% sure it isn't on there, because nobody ever cares about my weirdo songs that somehow continue to live on in my memory forever. Here you go. Take Me for a Little While
