Grandma's Treasures...

I recently went through some of my grandmother's old things and found what looked like an old embroidered table cloth. It is marked with a company called 'The International Navigation Company' which, according to what I've researched online, was a company which would later merge with other companies including the White Star Line which is famous for the sinking of the Titanic. I was quite amazed to find something so old and interesting in my grandmother's things. Has anyone else found unexpected treasures in their family heirlooms?

The only thing I found after he passed was my father's handwritten sermons which I kept. He was a pastor and it was awesome to see all these neatly handwritten sermons.

I like old things too. It makes me think of what life was like for people many years ago.

That's interesting. Have you decided what to do with it?

We've decided to keep it for now. We also found a lot of old hand embroidered things and we really don't know what to do with them all.

It would be interesting to know how your grandmother came by that table cloth. Did she ever go cruising?

We have all been trying to figure out where she got the cloth. As far as we know she never went on a cruise but we think some of her relatives may have done.

That's very interesting, and a very nice keepsake from your grandmother. No, I don't have anything like that from my parents or grandparents.

I have some small ceramic cups marked 'The International Navigation Company'. I am now emptying the apartment of my mom, I am finding plenty of things. Embroidered table clothes, bed sheets with lace, beautiful silk nightgowns. I am bringing everything home.
