Salem and Gweedo.

My fondest memory is of my kitty Salem and her "beau," Gweedo. Gweedo was a very handsome one year old silver kitty and Salem was a tiny ball of silky black fur. They hit it off almost immediately. Gweedo was dazzled by Salem's spunky playful nature and Salem was totally captured by Gweedo's affectionate devotion to her safety and welfare. They had a strange ritual that I will always hold in my heart and memory forever. Gweedo was the night owl, Salem was the early bird. Every morning at exactly 7 am Gweedo would climb up the outer screen door and splay all four legs "Bill the Cat" style and meow. The funny part is we could never hear it....but Salem did. She would stand at the door and meow indicating Gweedo was ready to come in and I would dutifully answer the call. This wasn't the REAL funny part, however. Every time Gweedo came in he would stand patiently for Salem to give him a welcome home hug and once the exchange was over both would trot in the kitchen to scarf down their breakfast. Even funnier: One day Salem was doing some litter box business and I just happened to see Gweedo in his usual configuration on the screen door. I called out to Salem and she whined as if to say, "I'm busy doo-dooing Mama" and so I let Gweedo in. He stood there and waited, and waited. All of a sudden here comes Salem tearing down the hall. When she finally arrived Gweedo gave her this "Well, where's my hug look. I chuckled as she very quickly gave him what he was waiting for and as usual...off they trotted to breakfast. I have never seen a relationship between tow animals like that since...
