It's been a long winter. Many of us have missed the sun and may be low in Vitamin D3. However, as much as we may like the sun for its warmth, light and many other benefits, we need to be careful. It definitely can burn us and it may even cause cancer. Can you share some wisdom about the use of the sun? What do you do to protect yourself from the negative effects of the sun? How do you use the sun wisely?

The ultra violet factor is very high in Australia and we need to protect ourselves from the sun's rays. We have a slogan Slip, Slop, Slap which means slip on a T-shirt or other protective clothing, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat.

@1hopefulman I'm not sure but it's too late now for me to research it. It's very late here and I need to go to bed.

I love basking in the sun in my bikini but not without sunscreen. And it's important to use broad spectrum sunscreen. And I don't bask in the sun at high noon. Early in the morning or late in the afternoon is great. I like to get my Vitamin D from the sun early in the morning.

Do you believe those that say that sunscreen is harmful? Do you believe those that say that best time for the body to make Vitamin D is between 11 AM and 1 PM when the sun is high?

@toniganzon Since there are so many different opinions, we are left to choose what seems best to us.

@1hopefulman I don't because the sun screen I'm using is free of harmful chemicals and contain organic and natural ingredients only. Mostly vegan and not tested on animals. And no I don't believe people who said vitamin d is between those times, because the I believe my elementary school teachers more who told me it should be before 9am. Even my paediatrician said the same thing here. We bring our new born babies out early in the morning to take that vitamin D. And our Department of Health said that these days, especially in my country, we shouldn't expose ourselves to the sun after 8am.

I don't go out in the part of the day when the sun is the strongest. Can not handle it anymore.

I understand! I usually like to go out for a half hour around midday as I read that it is when it doesn't take long to make some vitamin D3.

The sun is needed to have enough D Vitamin in our body. Fifteen minutes of sun are enough for the vitamin, for the rest I stay out of the sun, I do not tan and I prefer to stay in the shade.

Yes, I limit my stay in the sun to about 30 minutes. What time of day do you expose yourself to the sun as there seems to be some confusion as to when is the best time?

@LadyDuck Thanks for sharing what you do! It seems that information changes at times and it also depends to whom we listen. I think the latest reliable information that I found suggested from 11 AM to 1 PM as the optimal time. I'm going to check again!

@1hopefulman The best time to get an optimal vitamin D supplement is from 10 to 11 am during summer, and after 3 pm. As I said no more than 15 minutes.

I am very fair skinned and have to wear a high factor sun cream. I recently had something strange come up on my arm. The doctor said it was a keratosis which is not cancerous but he gave me some steroid cream to get rid of it as it can turn cancerous if exposed to the sun.

Well, I use the sun for my gardens. I tend to put sunscreen on in my most vulnerable areas, which include the back of my neck and my profoundly huge proboscus.

Liberal amounts of sun tan lotion # 30 SPF, a hat and sun glasses. Avoid being out too long in the mid-afternoon sun.

The times of the prayer are determined by the position of the sun.So This is my major use of the SUN.prayers are VERY IMPORTANT. Angle of the sun under the horizon-Dawn prayer (Sunrise.. end time for morning prayer) The time of Zuhr starts when sun passes its zenith-Noon prayer begins when the length of the shadow of a vertical rod -Afternoon prayer begins immediately after sunset-sunset prayer begins, at moderate latitudes, when the sky is completely dark and ends just before the Dawn Prayer. -Night prayer. So I need to protect myself from the negative effects of the sun on the day of judgment by praying on time.So This is how I use the sun wisely.

I'm not sure but I think you only get Vitamin D3 between 6 am to 8 am beyond that it could cause you sunburn and skin cancer.

We use to hang our wet clothes in the balcony to get them dried. But, I don't go out in the sun without using sunscreen, and wearing sunglass. But, I don't like to use umbrella.
