I caved

I myself don't really care that I am hot. I can have a fan on me and sweating, but I don't care. I will be uncomfortable but I will just deal with it. But my computer has been super slow during the day when I work and it is super annoying. I use my computer for everything I do. Drawing and working on mturk. And then it takes almost a minute to load a webpage, that is almost as bad as dial-up and I was just not having it. And my computer was constantly freezing and that isn't fun when I am working on a drawing and then I cannot save the drawing because my computer froze before I could save it. Also my phone was so hot to touch. I would be barely using my phone and my hands would be turning red because they were being burned by my phone. So to save the life of my electronics because they are what I use to work on, I turned on my window cooler unit. I don't have central air, we have window coolers. Which they work, (most of the time) on humid days they get a little picky. But I needed it, not for myself but for my electronics. Everything is all cool.

I had a fan on whenever the laptop became too hot. As it is, I used a few blocks of wood (the type kids play with) and strategically put them under my laptop (4 corners or so). It helps greatly.

I use to have coolers, but they just don't work well enough. So I just try and not use it during the peak hours of it being hot.

@sabtraversa That is a good idea, never thought of that.

@DesirousDreamer My laptop on wooden supports still complains a bit on extremely hot days. I often either turn on a fan, some aircon, or just turn off the laptop and let it rest.

If your computer heats a lot, you should vacuum it. The dust reduces the efficacy of the fan.

@DesirousDreamer The vent collects dust, it is inside that it is dusty. I open my computer and remove the dust from the vents every 3 months.

It is a laptop, it isn't dusty. It is just heat, when a room is like over 90 degrees eletronics get grumpy.

It is really not good for your computer to get hot, no wonder it is acting up. Try to keep it cool please, it would be a shame if it blew.

Doing my best. Can't really control the temperature other than turning on a cooler.

Computers and electronics certainly generate quite a lot of heat at times.

They really do and it doesn't help when the room itself is very hot haha

Have you looked at the little laptop cooling fans?

I have and they don't work because they cannot keep up with how hot it gets in my room.

If your computer gets too hot it could close down, is there anything around your computer making it warm not letting air to get to it?

I can't stand a hot room. I have my desk right under a ceiling fan, and have a little fan on my desk. I also live in Florida so the air is on a lot. My pc was overheating so i got a pc fan (i think it cost around $15. which helped also. My old phone got very hot like you describe, but mine was due to it's battery so i had to get a new phone. This one is fine.

@DesirousDreamer I just hate the electric bill. We have central air.

I always wanted to have a ceiling fan, but we never did it. I have a mini fan but since I am working on my bed it isn't the best to work with. But the AC has been doing amazing

@Debscrochet We do all we can to keep the electric bill low. especially since the company raised the set price before even the usage. It is so dumb.

Nothing kills electronics faster than heat. When it comes to our gadgets, the colder they are the better. I'm like you, I don't mind being hot, but it bothers me when my laptop and phone start heating up from being in such a warm environment. It's too bad they haven't invented mini air-conditioning systems that will circulate cold air through our gadgets, similar to how central air conditioning circulates cold air through our houses. Not that would be cool! (pun intended lol)

@DesirousDreamer After being in my office most of the day, it takes me about an hour to thaw out when I go outside. Every day people ask me why I am wearing a jacket when it is so hot outside. They laugh when I tell them the reason why, but then when they stop by and visit my office they finally understand what I'm talking about! And yes, it really is as cold as a meat freezer!

Those signs that your computer is giving are not good ones that could blow up your cpu and even the battery inside your phone could swell up.

It isn't that at all. It is just the temperature. I know the difference between over heating and heating up. Over heating is bad. Heating up is bad but it isn't the system's fault, it just needs to be in a cooled enviroment.
