“I’m going to Kansas City, Kansas City here I come
They got crazy lil women there
And I’m gonna get me one”
Another famous song by the legendary team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller who composed “Kansas City” as 19-year-old R&B enthusiasts. Originally titled “KC Loving,” they wrote the song for Little Willie Littlefield whose 1953 recording enjoyed some regional success. The song has been covered over 300 times including by Little Richard, the Beatles and James Brown. Wilbert Harrison’s version for Fury Records is the one striking gold. His “Kansas City” reigned #1 seven consecutive despite five other competing versions. Harrison was almost a one hit wonder as he did not have another until “Let’s Work Together (Part 1)” at #32 in 1970. He died at 65 in 1994. “Kansas City” is in the Grammy Hall of Fame and official song of the Missouri city.

Where are you? At your computer in L.A., silly!
A great, classic song, and the best choice for KC.

Leiber and Stoller considered it a homage to the city where the great Charlie Parker and Count Basie recorded.
And if the Beatles covered it enough said!
