why does "PH" make the "F" sound?

when you say P and H they are far from making the F sound so why is it like that?

It comes from a translation of the Greek language into Latin. The PH was introduced into Latin to differentiate a Greek "p" sound and a softer "p" sound that sounded more like an "F" in Latin.
