Grilled Eggplant in a Fine Dining Restaurant

Oh well, my discussion was deleted, why, I do not know. But I did want to play a guessing game with food lovers and see who can guess the dish I ordered in a Philippine cuisine restaurant. Anyway, I was fascinated by the imagination of the chef, for he made a boat out of banana leaves, and placed my grilled eggplant there, with salted duck;s egg and tomatoes for toppings. The grilled eggplant was a combination for fried tuna fish and danggit rice. Probably not what most people would order, for the tables near me have kare-kare and crispy pata. But I loved my food. Simple yet yummy. Do you like grilled eggplants?

I do not like eggplants to begin with hahaha but I love salted duck egg with tomatoes. You add it with onion, more delicious. hehehe But I must admit the presentation is cool.Thumbs up to the chef.

There was a time I also couldn't swallow eggplants. My best friend hates it, though she prepares grilled eggplant for her son who loves it very much. Ha ha ha. My daughter claims it is her favorite, too. She'd pay a sum for ensaladang talong. Hay. I also love itlog na maalat but since I am diabetic/neuropathic, I cannot consume as much as I want. Hu hu.

@mlgen1037 Talong is a stomach filler, and has no nutritional value, if I recall right a lecture about food ages ago. If that is true, I am sorry I eat the talong, too. Ha ha The taste is to one's liking, actually. Mixed and cooked properly, I do love it. Fried is a no-no, even with calamansi and soy.

I have heard of grilled cheese as far back as 1987, when a student told me about it. Up to now, I have not seen nor tasted grilled cheese. I like barbecue but has limited my choices to food I am allowed to eat. Would you share a recipe? The one you love grilling best?

Yup, I was amused by the presentation, too. The chef was a creative one. The only thing I could make out of banana leaves is a wrapper for steamed food.

@epiffanie Now I am tempted to search for banana leaves, too. But even more tempted to find a retreat. I need the solitude.

@eileenleyva I love that idea of using banana leaves .. I will make some experiments myself when I go back to my retreat where there's plenty of fresh banana leaves ..

@MrsPumpkins Yup yup Yum yum. Grilled egg[lant fried in eggs is called tortang talong. Costs a sum nowadays in the carinderias. Sixty pesos, I think, so I make my own.

Hi there! You should try grilling them, peel and dip it on scrumbled eggs and then fry.

I love grilled eggplant or any other eggplant dish.I can eat eggplant with fish sauce, could be grilled, fried or steamed. The food presentation of what you ordered is excellent. Just to share, I used to work in a restaurant before as a dining staff. What's the name of this Philippine Cuisine restaurant here?

The taste was really good and I did utter compliments to the chef. The waiter then told me that there is a secret ingredient. When I asked what, he wouldn't tell.
