Often we get stuck in a single type of music from where we live or what our family listen to or what our friends classified as cool. One thing about music it combines several forms of art from sound to poetry and we should open our mind and ears to new experiences. I am going to post a series of songs that I ask you to take the time to enjoy and expand your mind. I will pick froma variety of styles and try to avoid 'mainstream hits'. The first band is a punk band from the 1980s till present. They added more variety and experimental sounds than the popular punk bands at the time. At times they were weird at other times dark but they did have a genius to their use of lyrics. No worries this song isn't what most people consider punk it won't make your ears bleed. Enjoy.
Butthole Surfers - Jingle of a Dog's Collar From Electriclarryland cd ...................Enjoy

As a teenager living in the age of autotune, very few times will I tune into a song on the radio, unless of course it is on my beloved alternative station. Older generations (such as yourself) see artistic songs differently than I do. I enjoy many genres such as motown, 70's rock, and bluegrass. Some songs I think you should look at are as follows: My first song choice is by a band that is up incoming in the alternative industry, though only having two popular songs. This song is Modern Jesus by Portugal. The Man. They have stated a plethora of times that the song isn't even about religion. To me the way their voices flow together so perfectly in tune with the guitar is art in my ears, and if the song was stripped down to just a poem I would find it equally as beautiful. My second song choice is Pelicans We by Cosmo Sheldrake. After further digging into this band, I have discovered I like nearly every song they've ever published. This song is quite unique and actually educational. Actually another song by them is called The Fly, and the lyrics are adapted from the original poem of the same name by William Blake.? My final choice is actually not a published song. The artist was recently on American Idol and funnily enough, her outfit is what caught my eye i the first place. The song is 21st Century Machine by Catie Turner. This girl is just 17 and has a beautiful voice. She is truly art in my eyes. The song is all about how television and eletronics have impacted people just like me and her. She has some really amazing lyrics within the song such as "I'm not alive if I'm not on illegal weed." I think that is so powerful. Another strong line in the song is, "I'm not in love without a man sitting next to me." Think about these choices!!!!
