Do You Always Finish A Book/Task That You Started?

During the first two months of this year,I had started to read the Revival (E-book) by Stephen King,Code Red by James Patterson .
Also I started learning Italian again online.
But in January,February and the beginning of March many unexpected things prevented me from finishing all those plans.
I had to return Code red to the library with out finishing it.
Now I am planning to continue with the reading of Revival.
I will start reading from the beginning.
When you continue to read an unfinished book,do you start from the beginning? Or read from where you stopped reading?
Do you always finish everything you started?Or just give up?

Hello, Silvermist. I finish reading the book that I read except when I do not like the story. Then if I stop at a certain page, I will continue to where I left off.

In a way, that is saving some time.If I do that,I will have doubts whether I really read a page or not. That is why I start from the beginning.

@silvermist Yes. Usually I backread a few pages if I have forgotten what happened or when there is a twist in the story that is related to another chapter.

Finishing a book is good. But we need not feel guilty if we stop reading a book if we do not like it.

Do you need to practice your Italian? I am ready to help if you like. "The Revival" is a pretty scary book, but most of the Stephen King stories are scary. I always finish the books I start, I only had one exception, too boring and confusing.

@silvermist I have to check the title, it was a book written by an Italian. Too many characters and very slow and boring. I have found the book it is by Marcello Simoni "la Trilogia del Mercante di Libri" (The Trilogy of the Books Merchant).

I like finishing what I started. I understand that surprises happen that's just hard to finish what's started, that can't be helped. I like to read books where I left off. Hope you get to finish all you started.?

I am not much a Stephen King fan. I usually can't finish his books so I stopped reading them all together. The only books by him that I ever finished was The Green Mile and Salem's Lot. If I am not excited to get back to reading the book or if it feels like a chore to read, then I will stop reading it and never finish it without any guilt. There are just too many books out there to read that I don't want to waste my time on a book that I am not enjoying since that is why I read, to enjoy myself. However, if something happened in my life that caused me to not finish the book and I go back to it, I will just pick up where I left off.

Much as I like Stephen King,I have wished his books were shorter when I read some of the books. I think, you have the right attitude.

@silvermist Yes, he does tend to right tomes more than just novels!! I remember trying to read The Stand. Yeah that didn't get finished. LOL. I think he has too much detail and description in his books.

@silvermist I re-read 'The Trumpet of the Swan'. I read Charlotte's web too, that brought my son from school library knowing my interest on E.B. White's books.

I'm a shocker at finishing a book and what is worse I always spoil it for myself and read the ending even though I know it's silly

@silvermist Once I know the ending I don't want to read any more especially if it doesn't turn out how I would like

@silvermist oh yeah!!!!!! that's why if I start a book I have to have the complete series already. I can't sleep if there "should" be the continuation of the story.

@silvermist Mostly it would be because the task wasn't 'time- or effort-effective'. It was turning out not worth the effort it was taking.
