Going “Pastel” A Hairy Decision

Pastel colored hair is all the rage right now and I am surprisingly cool with it. I really admire the beauty of the pale rainbow shades that my friend Erin has chosen to wear. I am even surprised how stunning Cyndi Lauper looks with her pink tousled tresses. I guess, it doesn’t really matter at what age you decide to “go pastel.” It is the choice of color and also the cut of hair that will either generate an “ahhhhh” or an “ugh.”
After seeing these groovy examples, I have actually given some thought to “going pastel,” but what color would look best on me and how do I choose? Do I do a patch test, wait to see how it looks then grow it out and try another color? Can I get a “hair color swatch” card, hold it up to my face and decide that way? Do I cut before or after coloring? What kind of “do” will look best on an old lady of 61? I still have a strange attraction for hair trends and always up for trying something different, but what is my “perfect pastel?” So many questions and so few answers. Therein lies the rub.
I pondered the problem for a bit and came up short. I mused on it a tad longer, then asked myself, “What about just going silver (not pastel), or better yet, concrete (more pastel)?” Then, it dawned on me, “Wait a minute! I’m not trying to look older, for heaven’s sake! I’m want to shave at least 5 years off my age, if that is even possible.” Then came a “blast from the past,” “Wow!! I LOVED the look that female lead from 80’s band Berlin wore back in the day.” I will never forget that platinum blond pageboy with the perfect black bottom border. Stunning and oh so very sophisticated. It still takes my breath away remembering it. Yeah, but that would be too retro, and definitely NOT pastel. I know, maybe I could find a way to combine that retro style with some old-age friendly pastel colors? Eureka? O dang, I just got to figure this all out and find a pastel palette that works, but at my age, it is going to be a very ‘hairy” decision.

Brown isn't boring if you wear it well. I'm just in need of big change right now and I thought I'd start with the hair. I need so much more than that right now and not getting it. I think if I can feel better about something, I'll generate the kind of energy necessary to make even bigger and better changes.

That's uniquely nice. Try going for ombre color. It's just too gorgeous.
