***Administrative Advisement*** Re: Tags.....

April 9, 2018 11:27am CST
It's been quite a while since this issue has come up, but, it has recently come up again. So I think it's time for a friendly reminder. Although not (yet) specifically mentioned in the guidelines, the tagging of discussions with your user name is something that we frown upon. Doing so creates a bias in the "you may also like" section on the side of the page. The list will show mostly, if not entirely, discussions posted by the member with that name, rather than posts of similar subject matter. As per the guidelines, tags should be relevant to the subject matter: Spammy, inappropriate or irrelevant tagging - Tagging your discussions, responses and comments is a great way to get more exposure for what you write! However, any tag you create should be on-topic. So please, refrain from doing this, and use tags properly. Thanks!

I am glad you pointed this out, I have noticed the trend. If I want to see all the discussion by a member I go to the profile.

That is what we should do. Go to each writer's discussions.

@ramapo17 It's the simplest way to see what a user posted.

I may be having comprehension issues here. But I do at times mention other members within the post. Is it ok? The tag feature I rarely use.

@sabtraversa That won't be hard. If I am not wrong, posting a discussion on a person/member was not allowed, May be that's the reason for it. @goaskalice ,please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for the reminder .... sometimes it's hard to think of a tag to put with a discussion.

The best course of action in this case would be to simply not tag it. Although helpful, tags are not a requirement.

True @GoAskAlice but tags help me determine if it's about one of the furbabies

I used to do that so some very early posts may still carry my name as tags. If I spot them I'll edit them out.

Tagging one's name in the discussion sounds unfair to me. I would never do it.

Thanks. I noticed one tagging his own username and this reminder from you may stop him from doing so again. I tag my discussions according to the topics I share and I never tag myself in any of my posts.

I have noticed personalized tags, and several members seem to tag things that will point to either their user names or something about themselves.

Some people, eh? Not sure I'd've contemplated putting my I'd in a tag on a post, response, comment or photo g makes no sense. Thanks for the clarification.
