Since just before Halloween of last year, hanging faithfully from my rear view mirror in the inside of my car, is my little travel companion.
I've called him many things- my compadre, my tag a long, my ear, my reasoning, my inner conscious.
People see him and compliment him on being a great car guard. An old lady even asked me if I were,"one of them satan peoples." Some little children have stared at him and asked if he has a name, I tell them honestly, he doesn't have a name, because he hasnt "spoken" a name to me.
My GF just asks if he got tired of riding on my shoulder. Did he want a better view? Or is he some sort of bauble? She's even once said, "Why can't you just have a rosary like every mexican?" Well, i'm obviously not like every mexican.
"El Huesudo" never turns down a voyage. My little buddy seems to like riding along with me where ever I go. He's always looking forward, never looks back. Takes the ride along as if he's an explorer on the open oceans of years past. He wanders the lonely back roads with me. Accompanies me on my travels of self thought and philosophizing.
We have disastrously sang many songs throughout the few months that we have traveled together. Listened to a lot of talk radio. Seen the world evolve around us.
Unfortunately he is starting to show wear from being beaten down upon by the desert sun of this area. His outer coating has started to flake off and his "bones" are getting brittle. I will actually miss the emaciated looking figurine when he does fall apart. More than likely I will cremate him so this way he will be able to float into the breeze, up into the sky and ride on forever in the atmosphere of memories.
Now I wonder- in the end, who was really driving?

My dad had a companionship of a dog that I bought him in elementary. :) The dog used to bobble his head then it melted from the sun. My dad got rid of that car and the dog. :P

@infatuatedbby - things read differently on my tablet. I may have skipped a word or sentence.

@Plethos yeh, Dem Bones!
Selected scenes from "Fall Out," the final episode of The Prisoner, featuring "Dry Bones," a Dixieland-inspired take on the old spiritual "Dem Bones" recorde...

You will surely miss it the day it says enough is enough. Cremation is a good idea.

Maybe he needs some sunscreen and a hat to protect him from the sun
