At least there is one Harthal in every month. Different political parties declaring Harthal for different reasons. They forced to close all shops and stops the transport of buses and private vehicles. They find it is the easiest way to get attention to their protest. But wasting of positive time and the travelers from other country and outsiders have to suffer for that. Do you have any similar protest in your country?

Do you mean strikes? We have not in Switzerland, but they are pretty common in Italy.

That's wonderful to hear that a country without protests or strikes. Our Harthal is little different from strikes It causes a halt to the national economy. Because it interpret the common mans life. No shop, No buses No companies and it gives panic.

@ridingbet That's a bad tendency although it is here also. Peaceful strike is the best method.

@shshiju yes they do. jeepney strikes eventually paralyze the transport group. leftists and rightists do protest and almost always the traffic is involved.

We have very few strikes, but do have the occasional teachers strike. They do need more pay.

It sounds like Harthal is what we'd call a strike. These can be very crippling to an economy if they are too frequent. Nothing much gets done.

Exactly. Every one has right to strike . But more strikes goes violent to get fast attention.
