Reading Books For Children As An Adult...

I really enjoy reading books written for children even though I am an adult. I know that many older people enjoy things like the Harry Potter books so I know I'm not alone! I'm currently reading 'Traveller In Time' by Alison Uttley and it's charming. Are there any children's books you enjoy reading or would recommend?

Oh yes, I haven't re-read that as an adult but I remember being very affected by the books as a child.

@bunnybon7 I did search for it. It sounds like a lovely story. I'm actually surprised it wasn't adapted into a film earlier.

I see nothing wrong with reading young adult or children's books as an adult. I think we may get more out of them now than as children. I read The Wind in the Willows as an adult and loved it. I haven't heard of the one that you are reading though. My son is an avid reader and I have read some of the books that he has read and I liked them as well.

I've never actually read Wind In The Willows. It might be one I have to add to my list to read next. I agree that when I have re-read some books I read as a child I understand much more and get something different from the reading.

I dont have much opportunity to read books as of the moment. Instead I watch short video clips and most are behind the scene of some movies and some cartoons.

I like viewing videos too. I sometimes find it hard to make myself sit down and read even though I know I'll enjoy it when I do.

My husband and I were discussing the Narnia series this morning. I like the young pre teen and teen books for pleasure. I love to read aloud to children and prefer the little ones, so for them picture books and stories.

I have often done that as an adult and I did not read by chance but intentionally by bringing them from library. These books took me back to my childhood.

It's nice to be transported back to your childhood in that way.

I only read them to my grandchildren, even though they can read themselves. I prefer adult books, which I'm going to read in a few minutes.

@redurnet My grandchildren enjoy classics. I was an English Literature major in college, so have read most everything. Now, I read anything I can get my hands on.

I am finding it increasingly hard to find a book for adults by a new author that is any good. I tend to read classic literature now, much of which seems suitable for both older children and adults, to avoid getting half way through a modern novel and realising it's a stinker.

@DianneN I did English too. I try and give most books a chance these days but sometimes I start one and it's just too bad to keep going. I'm not keen on lots of crime novels which some authors seem to churn out.

I've read many children's books, to my daycare kids and loved doing this! Clifford the Big Red Dog, one of my favorites. All the traditional fairy tale books are wonderful, also.

I used to read 'Clifford' to my younger family members and it was always very popular! I love fairy tale books too. I have kept hold of some older volumes I was gifted as a child by my teacher and I still enjoying reading them every now and then.

I don't read books written for children unless I read loud to a young child.

That's cool. I used to like reading to my younger relatives although I felt like I wasn't good enough at acting out some of the stories with my voice.

I not only read books aimed at children, but I watch their TV shows as well (Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, etc.). I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I enjoyed reading to my children when they were younger, as well as watching TV with them. Plus, many of the books and TV shows have good plots and storylines.
