I asked the grocery store checkout clerk if he ever listened to music by Robin Trower.

The fact is, he was only about 16 years of age and he had no clue as to who the singer Robin Trower was, nor did he know anything about Carlos Santana. In fact. I then realized what a major GAP exists between my generation, THAT IS THE 60s, 70s, 80s & 90s from the current ROCK MUSIC trend of the 2018 genre class.
OMG I am 60 years of age. I can't relate to those YOUNGERS.
The music I grew up with is taken FOR GRANTED by myself and my generation and now I am living in an age where it seems that nobody who is age 35 or younger is at all too familiar with the MUSIC OF the past century.
I am familiar with all the music, because SPOTIFY has the latest tunes from the current age and YOUTUBE has all the music from CAVE MAN DAYS to the present age. That said, I have music from Bo Didley, The Spinners, even back farther when Satchmo was playing trumpet and singing back in his era. I have been keeping track of MUSIC TRENDS from before my childhood generation to the current age of music. It SEEMS TO ME music is music and anyone who likes MUSIC will be familiar with groups like the ones playing on SPOTIFY & current AM/FM radio and XM and orbital radio trends and genres LIKE
HIP POP
POP
R&B
RAP
Heavy Metal
Blues
JAZZ
Rock
New Age
Country&Western
Classical
and even music from France and Italy and other country music.
FOLK
but there are other GENRES OF MUSIC NOT MENTIONED HERE.
People of all ages and even the very young ones who sing on AMERICAN IDOL, are quite familiar with musicians that date back to the age of WOODSTOCK with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and The Rolling Stones but I guess there will be
A MUSICAL GENERATION GAP between not only AGE of people now living from personal life experience but NEW FORMS OF MUSIC that are completely unlike the music of my day dreams.

I can understand a young person not knowing Robin Trower who was never a major star but Carlos Santana is just basic knowledge and not to know him is a sign not being aware or well informed.

Yes, Robin was not as spectacular as Carlos or Willie.

You should have told the clerk because he didn't know Robin Trower he'd have to walk a bridge of sighs.
At least you would have had a laugh out of it.
