Did the news get shown over there? It's a big effing one here like the last time in 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case. It became international news and set example world wide how a country/ people should deal/ react to cases like that because people like to keep them underwraps and you know the victim shaming. But in 2012, people took to streets and did marches throughout the country creating uproar.
And now look how things have changed!
Early in the year in Uttar Pradesh state or UP for short a girl was raped and 4 times MLA is the accused. (Him being from the current ruling party) The alleged rape case came into the limelight after the victim tried to immolate herself outside Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s residence last week after alleging police inaction against the BJP MLA.
The CM himself is from same political party and had sh*t load of cases against him which were taken down as became CM. No surprises there! He is one piece of work!
Then recently a 8 year old girl Asifa was gangraped for days and murdered in J&K. In this case, the religion of the girl became the deciding factor whether the culprit be punished or not. Hell even there should be any investigation at all.
This time, people were/are again on the street protesting and you know what? There are also people (which included two ministers) protesting on the street defending the culprits. They attacked J&K police for arresting the accused.
It has created an uproar again. Inaction was one thing. Outright giving the clean chit to the accused was another. But protesting to defend the culprits was an all time low. I can't even fathom it.
India, you sure know how to set an example don't you?

@LadyDuck Rape is not legal in India but marital rape is. Not that it is any better.

It's hard to believe people would be willing to turn a blind eye to this type of behavior @Daljinder .

@nanette64 Lemme give you another example. There was a rape case which became breaking news couple of years before. Here a father was accused of raping his minor daughter. They belonged to a community. The panchayat (community leaders/ jury) announced the punishment to have BOTH father and daughter beaten publicly. A good samaritan recorded that event while punishment was announced and carried out on his phone. The crowd standing there did nothing to stop it. He informed the authorities.

Good post. So one can rape and murder inside a temple in India, and find people to defend him ? Or these people are walking with their head and thinking with their feet, or India should remove rape and murder from criminal laws and make them legal.

@topffer A spouse has legal rights to rape their spouse. Does it get any better than that?

@Daljinder I read a discussion about that a few days ago, with an Indian male defending rape between spouses. The sentence here is more heavy than for a "normal" rape (20 years of prison instead of 15)... Different places, different ways. Remind me to not visit your country if I am tempted in the future.

@topffer I had that debate with couple of Indian males in a discussion group on facebook. Their reasoning was that "consent" was given at the time of the marriage. There is not point asking each time they had relations. It's like we have gone back in time where it was women have to perform their "marital duties".

@Courage7 Yeah we have plenty of issues. We can probably even write a whole lot of books on it.

What a horrible situation where your religion can be used as a justification for a horrific act.

@marlina Yes! People are still burdened with the social stigma involved with rapes. They got to cut the shackles and speak out.

@Daljinder People who do bad things like this are wrong in the head. As well as those who defend them!

@Jessabuma I don't think it makes any difference for a criminal whether the place is sacred or not.
