I think it can but we need to see the level of depression in a person as it can work on one person and won't affect another person but most time Music does help in making us feel good and relaxed and in that way it helps in making us feel good, relaxed and may help one who is affected by depression.
I know it cannot cure like we wanna see and will take sometime but it can work.

Yes, music is very good therapy, for depression. I experience depression and was told by a doctor, that music does work to lift a person's mood.

Well, some said when we listen to music it makes us feel good it releases a chemical dopamaine essential for healthy functioning. happy lyrics help us think positively it lifts our mood and trigger associated memories, but I guess it really depends on the harmony and sound. for me most of the time yes it heals somehow. Anyway I'm new here in mylot and this is my first response so correct me if I'm wrong or anything

For some people depression is a medical, chemical imbalance. By itself music will not heal them. On the other hand, mood and music are closely tied and it can certainly help you feel better to listen to music.

i think it depends on the kind of music and the message entailed in it. i believe it can heal depression because music has the power to change how one feels about certain thing and also uplift your mood.

@thesupersingh i love listening to music when um feeling down it takes my mind off things and makes me feel better. music can make you drift thats why one can use it to meditate. you can feel like you are floating if you go deeper and connect with you inner being.

I don't think it can cure depression fully but it can help calm people and heal depression. One more thing is that we can't say all kind of music can do so. Some motivational and happy type lyrics makes us feel and think positively. On the other hand, sad lyrics can make you feel more sad, upset and depressed. Music is a very good healer. Listening to music when feeling depressed makes you feel really good.

I feel that this depends on the person.
Music can often make me feel even worse depressed. It sort of carries to me a meaning that I can't fully connect to, and because of this, it depresses me even further.
This is because depression sits on its own bed in me only when its created in myself from things such as the depression of love in me, and this comes about partly from my experiencing experiences that I see are depressing and non uplifting, but the real reason is that I am bored by life, in that nothing entertains or grabs me because it lacks connection to any real deeper meaning, which I have not even ever really found in that life as yet.
And yet, I suspect that it is true that life has no meaning unless it is given to it by love. Love gives itself in its meaning to all.
I just do not have the courage/strength/trust/strong enough belief to love, nor to follow it, and that is why I am depressed.

If we can really get into music, it can help us connect to love, in new ways.

@thesupersingh Nice thoughts, yes, I guess so, but they come out of my depression, which runs deep within me, and is heavy to lift away. Music at least can break apart the heaviness a bit, by repackaging it, so that it's not all sitting in one large heap smothering me with itself.
I listened to music all this morning, and that's the effect it had on me.
