And now, the curve ball that I promised you earlier. #44c in my Play it Again, Sam music series is another cover of The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter," this one performed by New Model Army with Tom Jones, included because it's just so damn cool! New Model Army is one of England's premier post punk bands, with a staunchly loyal legion of fans, and Tom Jones is well, Tom Jones. The powerfully voiced singer is in his late 70's, and women are probably still throwing their panties at him! In 1993, Jones and New Model Army teamed up to record a cover of "Gimme Shelter" for a CD EP called Gimme Shelter Alternate, made up of three versions of the song, a release benefiting a homeless charity, Putting the House in Order. The version is also available on the compilation, The Definitive Tom Jones 1964-2002. While it might not seem so at first, the pairing is not so odd. Remember, Jones had also worked with The Art of Noise on a cover of Prince's "Kiss." Odd or not, it worked. Beautifully. (Info verified by Wikipedia)
can't find it on tube, so... all glory goes to rolling stones, new model army & tom jones,

Interesting version....This song was also covered by he Goo Goo Dolls, Grand Funk Railroad, and the Sisters of Mercy. Jones and Mick two singers who can strut around that stage!!!
