I've been working on a project today, but now it's time to settle down and give you a couple more songs before I return to the daily grind tomorrow. I'm doing two simultaneous song lists: songs with at least seven words in the title, and one-word song titles with four letters or less. Here's today's short title.
#5: Lies - Linda Ronstadt
DISCLAIMER: a certain myLotter from L.A. did not pay me anything to use Ronstadt's version over the Knickerbockers'!!!
I'm using Linda's version of this great song for one reason: her 1983 cover was the first time I heard this song. In 1965 I was more interested in Buck Owens than the Knickerbockers, so I didn't hear their rendition until long after the fact.
Ronstadt went to town vocally on this song. She really knocked this version out of the park. What's not to love about her version?
Plus, there's Danny Kortchmar mugging for the camera over Linda's shoulder in the video. Photobombing 101!
Lies
Written by Buddy Randell and Beau Charles
Recorded by Linda Ronstadt
From Get Closer, 1983
(Originally recorded by the Knickerbockers, 1965)

An appropriate display of taste. Though the Knickerbockers original is good.

I’m more interested in Danny’s mugging than Linda fronting the video. That’s heterosexuality for you.

And here I thought you were going with the Thompson Twins. Not that this sucks or anything!
