Losing a family pet is heartbreaking

I am writing this because for the second time, I have lost a dog that I had grown to love. I invested a lot of time Ian’s money on her, and now she is gone. She got sick, and I was concerned, because she wasn’t defacating like she should have, as she was straining really hard to go, and would cry out in pain. I took her to the vet and come to find out, she had a heart murmur. That was heartbreaking enough, and to see her have labored breathing and cry out in pain because she couldn’t go, was really heartbreaking. The vet put her on medication and she had 2 injections in hopes that they would help. I am heartbroken she died, but I also realize that I could have spent a lot more money on her to get her well. In some ways, it is a blessing she died. That probably sounds bad, but when you end up spending a fortune on an animal and they pass away, then you come to realize that it could have been much worse, and she might not have improved anyway. I will always miss her, but life goes on, and animals can be replaced. She will always be in my mind and I will have memories to look back on. The picture is of both of my dogs, and the white one is the one who died. RIP Sarah, as I will never forget you.

It never is easy no matter how many times it happens. I know the one I have now, wont live forever, but while I have her, I will do evertything I can to keep her healthy and happy.

@Hannihar The dog I still have, insists on being in the kitchen when I am cooking, to see if I will drop anything on the floor for her to get, and believe me she is fast, as I don’t always pick up whatever I dropped and she will get it. I just wish she would stay out or just eat her food and forget about mine. That is typical though of dogs and cats to want what we have instead of what they should eat. She is 10 years okd and I hope she lives for a long time yet.

@rosekiss Karen, I really understand that one. I have my cat Sophie and she does not let me take care of her but I want her with me a long time and want her healthy. I just feed her cat food and she hovers around me when I want to eat and I tell her no.

Yes, RIP Sarah. So sorry for your loss. Hard to have animals and then lose them.

It certainly is, gut that is how life is, as they die just like humans do. They get sick like we do, so I am fine with it even though I am missing her already.

@celticeagle I will eventually. Petsmart has an adopt a pet program, which will be coming up in May I am thinking about adopting one then. There is such a void right now, and getting a dog to replace her, will fill the void. I really had a good cry today, and afterwards I felt better. It is okay to cry at any age as loss is so dramatic, that it becomes overwhelming. I know I will find just the right dog to replace her.

Oh, so sorry to hear that. It is painful for awhile, but in time we do get over it, but they will always be in our hearts. I know mine will, as I miss her terribly, as well as the first one I lost 6 years ago. It is something that is always there, remembering how they were when they were alive and healthy. I hope you can find another one to fill the void.

Thank you very much. It is very hard knowing that I won't be able to play with her or talk to her, and wake her up everyday, but such is life and things happen. I can replace her though, and I will in time, but for now, I have the pom to take care of, and she is very upset too, as she knows there is something wrong and she isn't here anymore. I am glad to be back as I know I have been away for awhile. Life gets in the way, so I am hoping I can start being here again, as I want to so very much. Thank you for your response, and take care.

I am too, as my heart is very heavy right now, but life does go on, and I think I did find another dog, but I have to wait until tomorrow to get him. It is another pom but smaller. I am hoping he is a good fit, and gets along with my pom, as he doesn't like big dogs, only small ones, and she isn't big as she is under 20 pounds. If he doesn't work out then I will just wait, but I know there is a dog out there for me.

I am so sorry! How heartbreaking for you. I'm afraid we may have to go through this soon, or at least within the year. Our 16 year old cat is definitely showing his age lately. He hasn't shown any signs of suffering, but he sleeps a lot now.

At least you aare prepared for it, wherre in my situation, it was totally unexpcted. It doesn't make it any easier either way. It is hearbraeaking as they become part of the family, and when they pass away, it is like a part of us is gone too. I feel a void now, that I need to fill and I will fill it eventually when I adopt another dog. In the meantime, I have my pom to take care of and make sure her needs are met.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX I definitely am, and getting another one to love has helped. I still think about her everyday though, as it is still fresh. I do shed tears too, as I don’t know how she got the heart murmur. That did her in, and at least she isn’t suffering anymore.
