Good Grief, How Hard Does It Have to Be??

Yesterday I spent nearly an hour on the phone, calling different places, just to try to retrieve the information that was supposed to be relayed to me the day before by my orthopedist's assistant, who never called me like she was supposed to. She was supposed to call an hour after the orthopedist did to give me information on getting fitted with my walking boot, and to make a followup appointment, but she never did. The first time I called, the receptionist I spoke to said there was a note in my file for me to call some pharmacy, and she gave me the number. So I called the number and it turned out to just be some phone survey for roadside assistance. So I called back and a different receptionist gave me the correct number (that first receptionist got two numbers switched around.) So I called the pharmacy, and the person I spoke to was confused because they don't dispense walking boots. She told me that I had been given incorrect info and apologized for it. Okay, not her fault. But by this point I was irritated with the receptionists at my primary clinic. So I called yet again, and was told the correct place to call for receiving my boot. So I called that clinic...and the lady there said they hadn't received the doctor's orders, which were supposed to be faxed over the day before. So again, I had to call back my primary clinic...and that receptionist tried to insist that I needed to call that first pharmacy, the one that doesn't dispense medical boots! I snapped, and ended up raising my voice at her. I demanded to be transferred to the orthopedist or his assistant (whom I had already asked to speak to several times up to that point.) As soon as I raised my voice, she transferred me fast, and I FINALLY got the damn assistant on the phone. The assistant was apologetic at least, although she claimed she had already faxed the orders over to the clinic where I was to get my boot...but she said she would do it again, and as many times as necessary, or if that didn't work I could come in and just pick them up myself. She also apologized for the incorrect pharmacy crap, and claimed that "somebody upstairs" had given her the wrong patient info to put in my file!! REALLY??!! Nice to know they can't even keep their patients' info straight. That's pretty scary, actually, because what if they end up sending over the wrong prescription for the wrong patient, and wind up killing someone? Anyway, so I'm getting my walking boot in the morning. Hopefully there won't be anymore hassle I have to deal with. That whole phone tag drama was absolute B.S. It shouldn't be that hard to get ahold of someone on the phone who was supposed to call me with this info to begin with. Sometimes the front desk people really piss me off. If they had just transferred me to begin with, none of this would have been an issue. Have you ever had to raise your voice with the front desk receptionists to get them to cooperate?

It's absolutely ridiculous that you have to put up with so much crap with the health profession for your ma this month. Sometimes you have to turn loose the flying monkeys to get anywhere.
