How Many Ways Can You Whistle?

I can whistle three ways. I can do the standard blowing exhale whistle (which I learned second). The inhaling whistle by drawing air in (I learned this one first). And the Hum-whistle (a type of vibrating whistle that is the exhale one combined with humming, I learned it third).
I cannot do the grass whistle (like a reed instrument), or the two finger whistle (the one where people put their finger up to their mouth or however).
Not really what I'd call a whistle, but there is a variation of the exhale where I mimic a fierce wind. I like that one, because if you do it right around others, they will think that it is really windy outside.

If it's arbitrary noises, I'm golden. But whistling an entire song takes too much precision for me.
I don't think it's vital, but I used to issue commands to my dog through whistle patterns. He responded better to that than words. So I guess it is a form of communication in a way.

I think it's hard work that leads to accomplishment. Many others were whistling long before I figured out how to do so. So if anything, I was a late bloomer.
@MALUSE Just a bit.

You made me try whistling. I realized I can only do it in two ways.

No matter how I've tried, I can't seem to do that one.

@Icydoll I have no clue. I watch how people do it, but can't do it. I can make my exhale whistle almost rival it, but it hurts to do so.

All I can do is the inhale whistling. I tries the exhale whistling but the sound did not sit well. Hehehe

Do the inhale whistle, then keeping your lips in the same position, and reverse the flow of air. You should be able to do the exhale whistle that way. :)

@mlgen1037 Do you tighten your bottom lip? If I blow normally, like I'm trying to cool hot soup down, there's no sound. But if I tighten my bottom lip, it changes the passage, and it will whistle.
The easiest way to see this (and thus get the feel for it) is to look at yourself in a mirror. Blow soft and slow, like you are blowing on a spoonful of soup. If you need to practice that with an actual spoonful of liquid, then do that. You want to blow with enough force to cool the liquid, but with less force than that which would splash it over the edge of the spoon. At that rate, tighten your bottom lip (kind of like moving in to kiss someone, but not top lip, just the bottom) and you should see the forward part of your cheeks pull inward. At that point, you should hear the whistle sound.
Changing the shape and tension on your muscles will change the pitch.
Don't be afraid of making weird faces until you get it right. :P
