Day 11
Matthew 7:7-12
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Sometimes it’s hard to ask for something, believing the answer will always be ‘no’. So, people don’t try, they don’t ask, they don’t seek after their dreams, and they don’t knock on doors to find a way to get what they long for.
Jesus told the people they gave good gifts to their children when they asked. They wouldn’t think to give them bad gifts. He then told the people that just like they would give good gifts to their children, their heavenly Father gives good gifts to all those who ask him. He then said, that just as we want people to be good to us, we should do the same to others.
Jesus incorporated the Golden Rule in his statement about asking, seeking, and knocking. He did not say we should do to others before they do to us, giving them the expected treatment of ill will and a bad temperament. He said we are to treat others how we want to be treated, and we all want to be treated with fairness and respect.
You have never heard of God giving bad things to those who love him. As Christians, you know that every good gift you receive is from God and every bad thing that happens is of the devil.
James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
So often you neglect to ask, believing you aren’t worthy of the thing you want most.
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraids not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Be careful that what you ask for is something that is good for you and will be used for God’s glory and you will benefit from it. God will not give you something that will harm you.
James 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. (KJV)
Doubt will cause the gifts God wants to give you to be delayed in your lives. You need to believe without doubting or wavering in your faith, and God will give you the desires of your heart.
Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. (KJV)
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV)
Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. (KJV)
God wants to bless you. He wants to give you the desires of your heart.
Jesus also told his disciples who left everything to follow him, that he would give them what they needed and asked for in this life, and eternal life in the next.
Mark 10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,
30 But he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
You have a future if you will only ask, seek, and knock. God will open his storehouse of blessings on you, and you will have all you need and the desires of your heart.
Let’s pray: Father, I know I failed to ask you for the things I need and want, believing I am unworthy of them. Help me ask for the desires of my heart, knowing how much you love me and want to give me your gifts and blessings. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

James 1:5-8 are the verses that brought me back to recommit my life to Christ after a three-year period of doubting from my last year of high school to my second year of college. The Holy Spirit opened my heart and helped me see that I could not keep wavering. I needed to decide to live as though God's Word is true and observe how that worked out in my life. I was double minded, which was why my relationship with God stalled during those years. I told him I would trust him to prove his word true and he has been doing that since then.

Amen!
Thank you yet again! I was reading in one of the new books that I recently purchased a little bit of this! It really is amazing to think about what life was like back then.
That all the struggles Jesus and his disciples went through. I've heard quite a few people speak as if Jesus created the church, but he did and he didn't. The church was already there, he was fixing it. He performed a lot of miracles for those that went with him. Miracles can happen now, if we pray and seek God.
