Family Bonding

This weekend, we went to visit my father in law in the province. It will be our first visit to him right after my mom-in-law's death. As per tradition, we were not allowed to cut our hair right after the death of a loved one. We had to wait after 49 days. The day after Mama's 49th day of death, the whole family went to the salon. From grandfather to the grandchildren, even my brother-in-law's girlfriend was there. We were doing this for the first time. We never had haircuts together before. We never had foot spas together, we never had our nails done as a family before. It was such a nice bonding experience. Mama brought the family closer together after her death. I hope she is happy wherever she is right now. It would have been a more enjoyable experience if she was there.

So sorry to hear that. Condolence. It's my first time hearing about not having a haircut for 49 days.

Is that tradition based on a superstitious belief? I have never heard of that before.
