Just Ask Nicely

The other day I looked at my bank statement online, and I noticed that the bank had deducted five dollars from my account for "processing" a piece of mail that was returned to them with "no forwarding address." Did I scream? Did I yell? Did I threaten to show them why ex-postal employees have such a nasty reputation? Nope. Instead, I told them I needed to question a charge, then brought it up. I said, "If I didn't get any mail at all at the post office box I wouldn't think anything about it, but I've gotten my loan mail there every month for two years." They admitted it was their blunder, not mine, and refunded the five bucks. See? Just ask nicely. Sing it, Glen:

It's amazing what having a few manners can do. If you get people's backs up with rudeness you always come out worse off.

This, truly, was a minor issue. I wasn't as pleasant when I found out that Direct TV had been charging me for six months for no service....

Then you have heard this one too... “You can catch more bees with honey than with vinegar." Here is one meaning if you are wondering- if you are cordial and agreeable you can often sway people and situations in your favor. Which is exactly what you did, and without using honey or bees. And for that matter no vinegar either

I don't know, apple cider vinegar is a trendy elixir these days. Maybe I could use that mixed with honey next time.

Most banks always look for means to make more money even from meaningless transactions. Good work for the way you handled them

You have to watch banks like a hawk. They exist for profit by whatever means.

Awesome. I wish that kind of service would be adapted here. Banks here would sometimes not assist you. Tsk tsk. I am glad though that they were able to resolve it.
