How Do You Eat Your Pizza?

This might sound like a crazy question but I'm asking it anyway. How do you eat your pizza? Do you pick it up and eat it or do you leave it on the plate and use a knife and fork?
Being from New York I've always eaten my pizza by picking it up, bending it slightly at the crust and eating it. But, I've noticed people here in Pennsylvania leaving it on the plate and cutting it with a knife and eating it with a fork. It just seemed weird to me as pizza has always been a food you eat with your hands.
Being that we're such a diversified group of myLotters I thought I'd throw this question out and see what the answers are. I'm not saying there's a right or wrong way to eat pizza but I'm curious!
Hands or knife and fork????

I usually just pick it up by hand, but I can see using a knife and fork if it was REALLY loaded and/or gooey. Or if I lost my front teeth. Oh yeah, I did.

@MarshaMusselman Oh, you poor thing! I hope the knee replacement does the trick and you don't fall again.

A little of both, depends on the pizza, toppings, etc.

Makes sense. I guess I wasn't thinking of pizza fully loaded

@Marilynda1225 If I sit at a table I never use my hands. At home I do if I cut small pieces that I serve as appetizers.

Seems that many friends here do both but mainly I just pick it up and eat it with my hands. Even in a pizzeria if we order a pie then we still pick up a slice and eat it with our hands.

I've always used my hands and never even gave a knife and fork a thought until I saw this recently at a restaurant.

I can do both, Marilyn. When I feel like being messy, I use my hands. If outside, then I will use knife and fork.

@Marilynda1225 I see. My grandma taught us way back when we were kids that we brought it until we grew older. We were used to eating with knife and fork. But during laid back days, no need to use those utensils.

I used to always eat by picking it up-being a New Yorker originally as well. However, as I have gotten older (and don't have the teeth I used to have) I feel more comfortable cutting it up and eating it with a fork and knife.

@Marilynda1225 I think it's a Northern thing possibly.
Thank you, it does make things difficult and I miss out on foods I always loved. It's okay though.

So is it more a New York thing eating it by hand? Sorry to hear that you have teeth issues. Must make eating many things difficult.

My short answer to the pizza question you're pondering would be both.
If its just a pizza delivered home, then its not as hot or as gooey as it would be fresh from the oven, so hands for eating that.
Unless I have to heat it a bit, then it will be a plate, fork and a knife.
If I eat it out, its always a fork and a knife.

That makes sense. I hate when pizza is all rubbery and gooey and you think everything is all going to slide off if you pick it up.

My bfs dad is the first person I ever met that didn't hold his pizza. And he said it's because he didn't want to get grease on his hands.
I only cut up our homemade pizza, because alot of the slices don't have crust to hold it and ia very greasy..

@Courtlynn I've seen people pick up a slice and wrap a napkin around it if it's greasy or even blot the grease with a napkin before picking it up to eat it.

I do both. At home I make mine filled with veggies so I mylot and eat it, with a fork and knife. Out to eat if its thin crust with my hands, deep dish with a fork.

I guess making homemade is different especially filled with lots of veggies. Guess I was thinking more of traditional pizzeria pizza

Seems the hands are losing so nice to see a fellow who eats his pizza the same way I do. Many of our fellow myLotters use a knife and fork

I like to use my hands. However, if the pizza is super hot, I cut into pieces and blow on the pizza so I won't burn my mouth...

If it's too hot I blow on it while it's in my hand. Nothing worse than burning your mouth with hot cheese
