Lecturing by parents to children

Dear friends, Today was another parents visiting day to our elder son’s school. I reached the school bit late at 10.30 PM so most of the parents are coming out when I reach in the school compound. (Timing was 8.30 am to 11am). I noticed many parents are giving advises to their children, to do this and that (yes many children accompanied with parents). Probably they are giving suggestions to children after hearing from teachers. I overheard many parent’s suggestions within that small time. It made me to think, how children may think inside them. I know children never like advise from parents especially on study matters. My son is also not different. He says ‘Oh you started your lecturing… ‘ in a joke manner… . However, I can’t help. I know most parents do this as they want to hear good things alone from teachers. What do you think, lecturing by parents to children, is it good or bad (here I am asking about studies only).

i sometimes believe it is all right, as long as the parents do not mix the 'lecturing' with berating.

In school compound they can't do it even though they intended to do.

When children meet some problems in study or in schoollife, as parent, we should guide him or her. We are experienced and don't want to let the child take a detour. I think kids will understand us sooner or later.

@Sreekala All parents do so.And they do so because they love their children. When I was a student,my father used to insist me to be sincere in studies.

Parents are responsible to make them realize the importance of studies. But most of the children never like this habit of parents. They will realize the importance once they become parents and by that time it is too much late.

@Sreekala I understand.Parents can't stop what children called "lecturing",simply because they are worried about their childrens' future. You reminded me of my father who had once asked me whether I was studying Trigonometry well.I was astonished, because he did not even know what "animal"this damned this Trigonometry was.Pointing to a equation in the book he asked me,"How will you solve it", and when I started explaining to him,he got bored and said," OK, don't neglect your studies.LOL!!

Itvwill always depends on the timing and how you would deliver your lecture to your kids.

It is right to guide your children especially in their studies, but if they want to lecture their kids it should be in a proper manner, they might take it offensive and they will lose self confidence.
