When people pose to help or support you just to use you

I had read a discussion about people who talk to you only when they need something. Even worse is when someone poses to help you only to help themselves to using you. That had happened to me after I was widowed. First it was a friend I decided to room mate with for help with bills and transportation since im not able to drive. She was never available when I needed to go somewhere, didn't pay rent and stole from me. I decided to move in with my sister to help take care of our mama. Eventually I decided to sell my house. In the meantime I was able to help pay groceries at my sisters. After our mama died the tune changed. I was charged an rent along with still paying mortgage on my house until it sold. That didn't leave much to help with groceries so my brother in law refused me food except for when my sister cooked. When I did eat, I was made to clean the kitchen. When I managed to buy myself little enough food to keep from going hungry, he then figured I could be charged more rent. I realized I was being used so I left. It just hurt turning to family for support and be used like that.
