Day 21
Matthew 9:16
Matthew 9:16 No man puts a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up takes from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runs out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.
18 While he spoke these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.
19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.
20 And, behold, a woman, which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years, came behind him, and touched the hem of his garment:
21 For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
22 But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour.
23 And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,
24 He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn.
25 But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.
26 And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.
27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us.
28 And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus said unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.
29 Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you.
30 And their eyes were opened; and Jesus straightly charged them, saying, See that no man know it.
31 But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.
32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spoke: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
34 But the Pharisees said, He casts out devils through the prince of the devils.
35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
37 Then said he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.
Everyone has a purpose in life. Some know what that purpose is early, while others wander aimlessly through life dissatisfied with everything, not knowing or not searching for their true purpose that would make them happy and fulfilled.
Jesus’ purpose was to teach the people about the kingdom of heaven. He did that by teaching people openly on the mountainsides, in the streets, and in the synagogues. He also healed the sick of every disease and cast out demons.
As Jesus taught them, he told them in order to make a change in their lives, they needed to be made new. Just as a person didn’t use something old to make something new, they needed to make themselves new, get rid of the old ideas of hate, and learn to love, have compassion, and help all those who needed help.
It wasn’t an easy task because skeptics abounded, scoffing, and laughing at his teaching, even his healing, and told the people his miracles of healing were done because he employed demons in his miracles.
Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. (KJV)
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (KJV)
As Christians, when you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, you became a new person. What you were – the old you, was gone. However, Satan is alive and active and will tell you there is no change in you and will do all he can to keep you in bondage through temptation and sin.
You must do all you can to resist him and allow Jesus to fill you with the new wine of his Word, and Satan will flee from you.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (KJV)
Just as the woman believed she would be healed when she touched Jesus, you can believe Jesus has taken your sin nature and replaced it with a pure nature found only in him. As Jesus raised the child to life, he will give you new life. The world will scoff, but you will know you were made new.
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for your Word that makes me new, and shows me how much you love me. Help me have compassion and love for others, quashing all Satan’s lies under my feet and living in the newness and oneness of you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
