As the years go on we sometimes get bored with our usual hobbies and habits. I am big into gardening and I just started making rope hangers for my plants to hang off the trees. This is fun so far but there are only so many plants I can hang. I did find that this is really keeping my fingers limber. I have arthritis in them so I try to keep them busy.
Do you have hobbies that keep you busy throughout the year?

Make a shiny aluminum foil ball. All you needed is a hammer, a metal polisher , sand paper and aluminum foil. They look pretty and shiny.
This ball became my obsession AND my masterpiece. Check out more awesome videos at BuzzFeedVideo! https://bit.ly/YTbuzzfeedvideo https://bit.ly/YTbuzzfeedblu...

@ramapo17 I am retired, too, and live where there aren't many wild animals but I do enjoy a rabbit in the back yard now and then and the birds. I try to attract different birds, but we're run over with squirrels so bird feeders get raided.

@ramapo17 I had a momma squirrel in the attic one year with two babies. I had to get someone to set a trap for her, but that didn't work. She finally moved her babies out when they were old enough. I watched her do it and it was kind of cool, but I was so glad to see them go.
That's one kind of wildlife I could do without!

@LadyDuck I know what you mean. I have been working on my gardens outside and decided to make rope hangers for the trees in the yard. I started just making one and then I went to the craft store and found so many colors and textures. Every night I have been going to bed so late as I get comfortable on the couch and my hands do not stop. It is keeping my fingers limber as I have arthritis and a couple of very bent ones. I am taking care of a few things at once.

Learning to crochet was one of the best things I ever did... I used to have trouble with my fingers going numb after playing flute for many years, but after learning to crochet, I have been able to keep that at bay.
There are many websites that teach crochet, as well as Youtube videos, books, etc. There are even kits you can buy online at Amazon, Ebay, Target, Walmart, etc. that will include project (s) and yarn and hooks to start with.
If you are creative (which it sounds like you are because gardening is creative, and hanging plants... well now...)
I think crocheting might be something you would be interested in that will keep you busy throughout the year and you can possibly make gifts and things to sell online or to your friends!

I did that too when i was young. It started when we had a school project. It turns out to be enjoyable to i made some and started liking it but eventually it stopped since I could no longer find new patterns.

@Herlyn123 There are a ton of free crochet patterns available online, just do a web search... also, if you buy yarn, chances are good that there is a pattern for something on the inside of the yarn label when you remove it! If you are really interested, let me know and I can send you some websites that offer free patterns.

@Shellyann36 Beading sounds interesting. It would be good for my hands as I have arthritis in them and I try to do many things so they don't get stiff. Good idea. Thanks.

Writing takes up a lot of time as you have to plan on what to write and then get everything in you head and then put it on paper. I would imagine that is a long project. I hope you tell us the name of the book. I buy books for my Nook and I will look for yours.
I think you mentioned writing others to?

My hobbies vary depending on the season. I enjoy gardening as you do. In the Winter it's crossword puzzles and picture puzzles. In Summer it is golf. I used to do crafts where I would make beaded Angels. My Mom taught me how. Here is a photo of one.

@Herlyn123 I did many years ago but I never liked taking the fish off the hook. As a child I use to go for lobsters in Maine. My mom was from up there and when we would visit some relatives we always had to go for them at least once.

You should take up golfing. Or, if you're feeling really adventurous, skydiving! lol
