As The Weather Gets Warmer Don't Forget The Homeless

Too many times people are always wanting to shun the Homeless, calling them Lazy etc and saying they deserve to be there, and none of them ever want to change. They would never Stop to help them, give them the shirt off their back, a bottle of water, and many times even think that this would be too much and since many even here might be struggling Financially this would hurt your needs too. But where in the Bible does it say to think you're too good to help someone, and treat the homeless worse than you would treat your Best friend. Some even ignore certain groups due to ethnicity and race. The bible and Jesus teaches to treat everyone as equals as you never know, one day this could be you out there. My husband and I Love giving back to the homeless, and have seen many good things come from it. We personally have been Blessed over and over and would never Stop giving back when we can. Now that it is getting warmer their #1 need is always Food, and then Water. Bringing them at least 1 during the day and 1 at night they will thank you tremendously for that. We even take time to talk with some of them when we can. Ask them their names, how long they have been homeless, and share in their day for a moment or two. We also ask them if their is something we can Pray for them about and then wish them a blessed rest of the day, and hope we can stop and chat again with them soon. Do you take time to be a Blessing and help them when you can? How about offering them a Water and a sandwich? ~~TINA~~

I donate to the charities who take care of the homeless. We do not have homeless in the streets here.

I rarely give directly to the homeless as we do have people pretending to be homeless to explout the charitable - I like to support charity groups who do help the needy

@KrauseHome it is better to give to the charities that support the homeless as they will know who is a genuine case and who is not

People are more conscious of the needy in cold weather, but you are right, they need our love and attention in the heat as well.

The heat can be just as rough or rougher depending on a persons medical conditions etc

No. Offer them some temp jobs for cash and necessities. Unless they are too old to work. One must help themselves before others help them. The reason why Asia continue to have a growth despite of all the bad economies boiled down to individual grits. Many may loses their home but they will not give up, they will fight and bring themselves back to recovery.

There are no homeless around me, but when we see them in large cities, my husband and I buy them food and drinks and make a donation.

It continues to get worse here. But we are always handing water and many times sandwiches or other things we might have extra in the way of food and water, and often other things to the homeless camps, etc as well

I'm glad you talk to them as well as helping with food and water. I'm sure it means a lot to them that someone takes the time to say hello.

One of the best things about volunteering at the homeless shelter is the conversations I have with the folks there. They are all just like any of us and we should never feel we are better than they are.

Yes, and I find many times the more you give, the more you get back.

Here in the Philippines, most of the beggars don't accept foods or water even if you give them foods they will reject it cuz they seek money. Money is what they need than food. It's funny to think , isn't it?

The Bible also says, "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime." A handout is never helpful in my opinion. If you want to help the homeless give them some insight. Give them a job. Give them some hope. Never give them money or food. Even setting out milk for a stray cat only leads the cat to find the milk...not the mouse. It makes people feel good to think they are helping someone. But usually they are helping no one. I said the same thing to a church once where I did pest control who ran a food pantry. I said, "Does it bother you that the same people come for free food year after year after year? If you were truly helping these people wouldn't they eventually not need your pantry?" Same goes for welfare. If people only stay on welfare, they are really not being helped at all. They are being maintained, and those who support it and contribute to it only contribute to continuing to keep their lives held down.

There's a grey area when it comes to things like homelessness. Yes we have those lazy people who just want to live on hand outs, and then there are those who are genuinely homeless. We do always think they need help in the cold, but you outline that summer is as equally dangerous.

Bless you for being kind. We never know what situations happened to that person. Maybe they are doing the best they can. Maybe it was situation out of their control. Or maybe they were just human and made some mistakes.
